Race menu question

I was curious how difficult/possible would it be to create an alternate race menu? I know alot of people have a -lot- of custom races, especially if you throw in lovers/mbp as well as the plethora available on the nexus. The scrolling option we currently have is really slow. Especially when you're trying to get to a particular race at the end of it, having to load each and every race beforehand. If there was a way to put it into a list format, like dialogue boxes are, that would be pretty amazing imho.

 

Just a thought. It would suck if the menu is completely hardcoded.

I agree that there should be a high demand for a revamped race menu. Hair too. When you have around 60 races, finding the one you want can really be a chore.

This...I am eagerly looking forward to a product like that as well. The current Race Menu is killing RAM of my PC. Mainly because Oblivion has a bad habit of not purging the cache from time to time and simply adding more Mbs to what has already been loaded so far :/...

 

My idea - a shiny block in the prison cell starting location (for example, the Ayleid block in the Skip Tutorial mod). Using it would open up a Menu from which the player would be able to select a race manually. Adjusting hair, eye, etc. would be done through the normal Race Menu or again through this menu.

 

So whatcha guys think? :) Is that doable?

It's a workable idea, though I love using Start by Ship :P.

It's a workable idea, though I love using Start by Ship :P.

 

Sort of noticed my idea is a bit of a 'work-around'. Instead of the block it would be far more handy to have the Menu spell tied to a crystal ball or any other random item (soul gem maybe?). Unfortunately, I'm just a theorist, I don't know how to program in Oblivion :(.

I mod, but something like this would take a fair bit of xml and scripting knowledge, of which I don't know a lot about. It would probably still have to be a menu, not sure how the in game execution of it would work. I've taken a look at the race_sex_menu.xml but I have absolutely no idea about how I would change the format of it to a list rather than a scrolldown. I wish I could pick Darn's brain, he'd be the one to do it, I think.

 

Maybe I'll backup the race_sex_menu.xml and start experimenting. Of course, I don't know where exactly to start!

I think that instead of modifying the Racemenu itself maybe it's possible to simply "call" a particular race or open the Racemenu on that race through a Menu function (a standard pop-up Oblivion Menu in this case with suitable options for each detected race).
