TarnisMartell Posted October 29, 2016 Posted October 29, 2016 Hey fellas, I got a major problem with my fallout 4, a lot of Quests just do not proceed at early stages and I do not know why. The few mods I ve installed (character making and guns) should have no impact whatsoever on Quests except maybe for the Unofficial Fallout 4 Patch. Yet there is quite a number of quests (3 out of 4) that simply do not proceed when it should move on to the next part. f.e. the main quest as I follow dogmeat out of DC to the first cigarr of Kellogg, nothing moves on from there. Dogmeat just doesnt react to anything anymore and there I stand with Nicks stupid face in front of me. Of course I ve looked it up to see if I was missing sth. but I did not.As I said its the same with othere Questlines (First meeting with Danse or defending Settlers from raiders etc.) and it annoys me caus basically I cant do anything but walk around and have gunfights (not cool if thats the ONLY thing u can do). LOOT also didnt change anything. BTW: I already used console codes to proceed Quests but as it seems I have to do this at almost every step within a Questline and that cannot be the answer :/ I d love to hear any suggestions on this caus I am really frustrated right now Thank you guys!
Benmc20 Posted October 29, 2016 Posted October 29, 2016 Can you paste here your full load order ? Without this, we can't help you.

Mercenary666 Posted October 29, 2016 Posted October 29, 2016 Well, the first thing I'd do is look at anything that affects companions and NPC's, and looking at your load order, you have a few. You could try disabling them 1 or 2 at a time and then see if your quests advance. Also. check the author's mod page (comments and bug reports) to see if anyone else has reported a similar problem. Another thing you might want to consider - did you at ANY time use the console to force a quest, change the result, reset it, advance it, etc etc etc? If you did, this can very well be the reason why your game broke. If this is the case, hopefully you have a prior save that you can go back to. It can also be something very simple. Look at the open quests in your quest log and check them in the wiki. Look at the bugs section especially. You'd be surprised at what you can find there. EDIT: After re-reading your post, I see that you indeed used the console to advance a quest. This is a dangerous practice and unfortunately, you're experiencing the consequences first-hand. Before using the console in this way, you should always check forums, google, wiki, etc to see if anyone else has come across the same issue. Just because you can force a quest doesn't mean that you should. To put it another way, fix the issue when it happens the FIRST time, but by not doing that and continuing to console your way through, all you did was compound the problem. IF the problem is your console use, I think you're gonna need an earlier save. I hope I'm wrong and the problem turns out to be a mod conflict.
TarnisMartell Posted October 29, 2016 Author Posted October 29, 2016 I did it once (when I noticed the Quest with Danse would not proceed otherwise), at this time it was the fourth Questline that did not advance on its own, thats why I tried this, I had to do this twice in this Questline and the third step would also have needed the console command so I stopped the whole thing. Apart from that I did not use this method. So its fair to say that in this case the console shoul not be the cause of the whole thing... But good to know that this can have such major effects, caus I ve never read about it anywhere before. I can just say that this occured very early, when I had only 6 or 7 mods in it, but I did not react to it caus I thought some things are always buggy. Did not know/expect that this would be almost every single Questline in the game. I am quite resilient due to Skyrim modding and the choas it sometimes produces, but I got F4 only a week ago and, I havent come far or done a lot, I dont know, I dont quite get how the whole game can get cracked up by these minor changes. Or maybe I get it, but it pisses me off big time -.-
Benmc20 Posted October 29, 2016 Posted October 29, 2016 This mod may be the problem : http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/15702/? (Welcome to Goodneighbor). Try to restart a new game without it. Well : http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/15702/?tab=14&navtag=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nexusmods.com%2Ffallout4%2Fajax%2Fmodbugs%2F%3Fid%3D15702&pUp=1 (look at the bugs section of this mod)
TarnisMartell Posted October 29, 2016 Author Posted October 29, 2016 Well thank you for that advice but I think I can refuse that as I installed Goodneighbor mod just yesterday and the described problem has been there way before that

Or maybe I get it, but it pisses me off big time -.- Try to remember what you did PRIOR to the Danse quest issue. If you installed or UNINSTALLED mods at that time, there's a chance they were the problem. Something broke your game and the most likely culprits are mods and/or console use. Since you say the issue started when you only had 6 or 7 mods installed, I would think that those 6 or 7 are the best place to start. Also, don't ignore what mods you uninstalled. Keep in mind though that it may be too late to salvage your game. Just because a mod is uninstalled that doesn't mean that it's gone from your save. Some elements become part of your save file forever, even after the mod is gone. I hope for your sake that this isn't the case. Start with the easy shit first - backup your saves, verify game cache through Steam and then start uninstalling your mods a few at a time. See if this makes a difference.
TarnisMartell Posted October 30, 2016 Author Posted October 30, 2016 I hoped there was that "one" mod or issue that everybody knows (except for me) to be problematic. Guess I gotta go through every little detail. Feels like Skyrim after all xD Thx guys!
TarnisMartell Posted November 1, 2016 Author Posted November 1, 2016 Well. I did the whole thing and then started a new Game. This time everything worked smooth and wellUNTIL I came to the same spot as where I resigned the first time - Dogmeat and that Cigar of Kelloggs just dont want to come together. No coming further than this. Any more idears? please
Jazzman Posted November 1, 2016 Posted November 1, 2016 Uninstall the unofficial Fallout 4 Patch, an umbrella mod that is known for occasionally appearing fundamental bugs by still unknown reasons, and systematically broken quest lines are just that. Maybe that's the case here.
