Guest Posted October 22, 2016 Posted October 22, 2016 I am trying to recreate Leliana's armor, from Dragon Age 2, and was wondering if anyone knew what type of technique was used to create the shingles/scales? I can't seem to make them look like that using the method I am trying to do. Thank you if anyone replies.

I mean to ask how they possibly made the scales? I cannot tell if they are stack on top of each other or if it's just a texture done in ZBrush or something?

I'm just an amateur at 3d modelling but I would have gone about it by creating a rectangle then create an edge down the middle then a shell modifier to give it volume, then start cloning it and moving a few into place attach them all and clone bigger pieces to keep the structure uniformly distributed - could also do one side then mirror or use a symmetry modifier. On the game model the baked normal map would take care of these ideally so you wouldn't have to UVmap them.
