Night~Sky Posted October 2, 2016 Posted October 2, 2016 So, I don't post very often, but I thought I'd throw this up here and see if any of the knowledgeable folks around here have any ideas. I haven't touched the creation kit in probably three or four months, possibly longer, but Skyrim hasn't updated or anything since the last time I did. In fact, nothing in my hardware or software environment has really changed, as far as Skyrim is concerned, except the actual mods I have loaded. So it was somewhat to my surprise when, late yesterday, I hopped out of Skyrim with a sudden motivation to remodel Honeyside to my own taste, only to discover that the creation kit has...broken, for lack of a better word. Put simply, it crashes immediately when attempting to launch and cites an error with the steam api .dll. Just to be absolutely clear, here, I would completely understand this occurring if I was a cheap-ass and had pirated Skyrim, but I did not. I've actually bought the game twice, having bought the legendary edition just to get the DLCs on the cheap despite having already owned the base game since release. Short version: my copy is legal and legit, so the creation kit spitting out an error I'd only expect to see if it was pirated is very odd, and annoying. Has anyone else experienced this and, hopefully, know of a solution?
Guest Posted October 2, 2016 Posted October 2, 2016 It happened to me once. The quick solution was by removing CK from Steam, and re-downloading it. It will not touch your Skyrim directory and mods.
Night~Sky Posted October 2, 2016 Author Posted October 2, 2016 Wow, it's actually that simple? I know it doesn't speak very well of Bethesda but I kind of figured removing the CK entirely would screw Skyrim up. Heh. Will give that a shot. Thanks CPU.
Storms of Superior Posted October 2, 2016 Posted October 2, 2016 I had to reinstall Skyrim a couple of weeks ago. Of course, that came with a reinstallation of CK. Now I get an error while trying to launch CK through MO. Yes, this has happened before. Same error code. Also not pirated, unless Walmart sold me a counterfeit item years ago.

Be sure, in MO, CK has an Overwrite for Steam App ID to 202480.
