Scripting and Mod Organizer

I would like to get into modding skyrim through the creation kit. However, I have been running the game through mod organizer, which has horrible support for the creation kit, compiler issues at the like. What method do you guys suggest to maintain a playable game with MO, but also allow me to open existing mods for the sake of learning, and simultaneously develop new mods on my own?

You could try moving the CK outside the Steam directory. You'll still need Steam to run it, but it'll edit its own local files rather than mess with the Skyrim installation. When you complete a mod, you just select all the files that belong to it, put it in a zip file, and load it via MO.

If I remember correctly you have to unpack the Scripts.rar that you find inside your Data folder into your Scripts folder. And you have to copy all scripts from mods you load with the CK into your scripts folder as well.

  1. Add Creation Kit as an executable in MO
  2. Install the Papyrus Compiler Patch for x64 Systems..  This will let the papyrus compiler see MO's virtual filesystem

Any changes you make to any files will show up in your "overwrite" mod in Mod Organizer.  From there, you can right-click "overwrite" and select "create mod".  That will put all of the files you changed into a new mod so Mod Organizer can manage it.
