How is the Settler AI now?

Last I was playing,

 

The settlers would just sort of stand around the spawn point doing nothing rather than their assigned tasks.

Made playing the settlement part of the game less fun.

 

I searched around and found that the Unofficail Patch did mess up something with Settlements but from reading about it, it was not the AI but rather an issue that made settlers change appearance.

 

Any idea's?  Does this still come up in Tech support or normal play?

 

Is it safe to start over again with Settlement Mods like HomeMaker and the FOSE for moving the settlement objects anywhere?

"Don't Call Me Settler" is where I like to start, then there are mods that add additional idles that make them feel even more alive.

 

Now that there are no more DLCs coming out and hopefully Bethesda slows down on the patches and just leaves it a little more stable, I figure the real modding can begin?

 

I expect we'll see F4SE functionality for settlements as well.

 

It has gotten better, but it still feels more like your just building rather then any type of interaction.

I'm actually hoping for an almost complete re-write to how the settlers work, but I'm expecting it'll be months worth of work.

There are also this http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/10283/? and this http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/16361/?, though from reading through both of them neither change the ai for settlers though.

 

And settler ai is dodgy as hell, as you said a lot of the time for no reason they just sit there doing nothing, though usually for me that happens when the settlement is bugged for whatever reason, and bugged settlements seem common as hell in this game, where for whatever reason it shows as happiness dropping but no attack happening, food, water and beds are fine, but happiness drops fast I have seen it drop from 80-90 down to 50-60 for no apparent reason, they several days later in game you finally get the message that the settlement needs help or has been attacked.
