anyone know if its possible to load Skyrim on a PC twice? I like playing 2 different toons depending on my mood and having a seperate game installed would mean i could load up 2 different sets of mods for the 2 different characters.

instead of just having my 1 Skyrim with 300 mods loaded into it for when i play my male toon like CBBE to look at the busty ladys and have my toon all buffed out diff houses i might want on one toon and different body mods id want on another toon. instead of having to go in and turn them all off and back on would def make it easier for when i play my female toon.

anyone know? anyone tried? hate to go in and try and load another skyrim and have it goof up my original.

Thanks in advance.

Sure you can do this.

Install Skyrim as per normal and then make a new folder in your steam directory called Skyrim2. Now copy everything that is in your original install over to the new folder that you made. When you want to switch between the two game installs all you have to do is rename the folders.

Example:

Original install "skyrim" folder - change the name to "skyrim original"

Then change "skyrim2" (this is the new folder you made and copied the original game into) to "skyrim" and you are set.

NOTE: Remember to back up your save games (they will be in your my documents\my games\skyrim\saves\ folder! It is best to make a couple of folders there and name them so you can remember what they are!

TURN OFF STEAM's CLOUD SAVING FEATURE or you might have bleed over!

Further Note: You will need to install your utilities like the CK and a mod manager to both games also.

Thanks Gregathit ive already been doing this for the data folder alone.

do you have any idea how a third party program would work with this like the skyrim nexus mod manager? its nice to be able to automatically install mods and not have to dig through folders to copy and paste.

i should have put this in my original post but it didnt get in there :(. ive also been doing copies of my entire skyrim save game folder in the mygames section of my HDD.

thanks for the tip on the cloud saving feature didnt even think about that one.

what i really wanted to do was have 2 complete installs of the game with their own save games and everything, with a simple click the icon and start playing set up but its not letting that happen. oh well changing the name of a few files is better than nothing.

I think there actually is\was a setup for Oblivion that would manage your mods\saves in this fashion so that you could have different setups. I don't know that this has caught up to skyrim yet. It may take a while.
