Hi guys,

I have been spending the day trying to get some of these mods to run and i can't seem to manage it, despite usage of loot and tes5edit etc.

Is there any guide on a surefire way to at least get a basic setup (e.g. SL Defeat) going from a clean Skyrim legendary edition installation ? Like a step by step guide so that you can at least some basic mods going ? I think its really annoying that everybody has to figure it out on their own when there must be thousands of people who have already done it. If there would at least be some logging but i cant even get that going. Yes i found out how it is supposed to work (skyrim ini -> papyrus) but its not working either. Just those stupid CTDs. Aargh, that is so frustrating.

Edit:

an example of something that i would consider Basic Setup:

Calientes Beautiful Bodies Edition + Armors

Schlongs of skyrim

FunnyBiz Animations

SL Defeat

+ prerequisites obviously (e.g. script extender etc.)

Well i am pretty new to this, i used NMM until now but the more i read in these forum the more it seems i will give MO a try tomorrow. Problem is I really would like to have a simple guide that goes from clean install step by step to a basic setup. The reason is, as i hinted at above, that i dont even know what goes so horribly wrong with my game, so that i can not ask any intelligent questions. I found Anatriax "Guide for a naughty and immersive Skyrim". Problem is that she took out all the SL stuff in the newer versions. Apparently its less naughty and more immersive these days. So that doesn't really help me.

There really isn't a surefire guide. Skyrim is a great beast, and great beasts need taming when you want to control them. Taming requires knowledge, knowledge that most often comes from experience.

Mod Organizer is a good place to start, though, because a messed up installation there only destroys your save files, and not your entire Skyrim installation.

If you are going to give MO a try (and I personally would encourage you to do so), the best thing you can do is go to the STEP site and READ about MO. Learn what it can and can't do, and a bit about how it works. As 4onen says above me "taming requires knowledge". So learn how things work. If you prefer, look on Youtube for GamerPoets Installation video/ tutorials on MO. The included link is to the first video. I am sure Gopher has many tutorials about MO on YouTube as well.

As for installing mods: generally most mods can be installed by simply clicking and installing and no further action is needed. Mods that do need more action will say so in the description, so always read what the mod author wrote in the description and follow it to the letter. There is a reason why the mod author wrote it!

From the short list you provided, SOS and SL Defeat are simple "click and install" mods. You do the actual setup for these mods in the MCM menu after installation.

I have never used CBBE or Funnybiz' animations, so I don't know how those are installed, but as I said, the mod description page should have all the information you need.

A handy tip for when installing mods: make sure you are in a small, quiet and enclosed space with little scripting in Skyrim, like the Whiterun house or Arcadia's Cauldron. This will usually prevent freezes/ CTDs because of sudden heavy script loads. And be patient. Sometimes it can take quite a while before all scripts have started.
