Nessa Posted July 9, 2016 Author Posted July 9, 2016 Oh yeah... a question: Â So... guy crowns? Just toss and use the same ones as girls get? (Same question goes for the Drow mod actually!) I'm not really loving the guy's version.
Mordyn Posted July 10, 2016 Posted July 10, 2016 I am interested in the game, seems to be a great 4X. I'm not into Drows, but your elves seems to fit better It kind of reminds me of the awesome free subjugation books by fel, if I may recommend some nsfw but great scifi ^^
Nessa Posted July 10, 2016 Author Posted July 10, 2016 I'm finding I prefer the Elf ship style when I play as a Drow. I should probably retexture them to sleek black and rid the Drow of the avian ships totally! Â About Stellaris, it is a pretty good 4X. It's a little weak on the "what do I do if I'm a peaceful nation" bit. And it can get a bit dry in between wars mid-game. Well, at least if you play it like a game that ends. If you play it with a more Crusader Kings II viewpoint, it's much better. At present I mainly play multiplayer with one friend. Usually we only quit (or start a new game) if both of us have died OR if we've survived at least one crisis and are the top nations. (We team up against the computer.) Mods are your friend though. If you load it up with some of the better mods, it makes the mid-game level much more entertaining. In my case I'm in a game trying to colonize asteroids because there are -no- planets I can grab without war. But that's only thanks to a mod. Asteroid colonization isn't vanilla. Never have made it to the game's official "You've conquered the galaxy" thing. Probably I won't ever get there as the idea of conquering every. Single. Civ. Sounds extremely boring.Â
Mordyn Posted July 10, 2016 Posted July 10, 2016 Do you have a list of recommended mods to enhance (but not completely change) the game?I'm more of a pacifist/diplomat/defensive civ than a war-monger, and usually 4x are weak with that philosophy BTW you should publish your mod in the Workshop (without the nudity, thanks Steam ), I think it will be popular.
Nessa Posted July 10, 2016 Author Posted July 10, 2016 I don't think I've played a 4x that was strong on that. I always wonder why. It should be a central theme. Anyway some mods I use....  Alpha Mod Crystallis Ship Modules TFW's Bunch of Ship Parts CoFH Tech Adanced Buildings UI Overhaul 1080p - If you have a huge monitor that is. If anybody else has some mods to suggest, feel free.  As for Steam, originally I didn't put it there because I literally LOATHE the commenters. Any mod I put up there can get tossed by morons commenting. So I'm supposed to mod plus be a moderator? Nope. Now of course, the nudity would keep it out. I don't imagine it would last long even if I turned off the nudity aspect while playing. Paradox has a habit of tossing mods out for... either bad comments or because: they're stupid.  I don't have it up at the Paradox forums for two reasons now. Nudity, and the fact that the rules for mods over there are ASININE in the extreme. I think Paradox may have gotten a little high on itself or something. My first run in with Paradox stupidity was with CK2. I'm not about to repeat the episode with Stellaris.
Nessa Posted July 14, 2016 Author Posted July 14, 2016 UPDATE kinda.... Â Like it says on the main page this is a test version. IF this works out, I'll make some changes for the next real version. Â Possible Changes for next version: Change Ascari civ to be 20% instead of 100% (Think that is limited enough?) Also might randomize the name. Incidentally, the civ has a new flag players can use too. Add in pre-FTL and pre-sentient elves -sparingly-. In interesting systems of course. Aside from fallen empires going elfy more, the benefits may outweigh that problem. My current game is using this version and I've got almost no elves anywhere except one very nasty fallen empire and the Ascari which are blasting everything in sight. Â Â Â Oh yeah, almost forgot. Be ready for a surprise if you wander into the Ascari's home system. Look for "Caras Vala". Â Â Â And for the benefit of people who are just curious, what is so funky about this system? Well, it uses an essentially impossible orbital situation. Or... at least the guy that explained the setup said it was impossible so far. (Supposedly nobody has been able to get it to work yet.) Â But these are elves! They can make it work... Â Â Â I do wish Paradox had made better system scales though. You'd think with all the astronomy apps out lately they'd have adopted a better approach. Oh well...Â
Randomy Posted July 16, 2016 Posted July 16, 2016 I'm not sure why but the Elves aren't showing up when I try to start a new game. The mod does show up in the mods menu. Any ideas on how to fix it? I'm running ver 1.2.1 (20fe) if that matters.
Nessa Posted July 16, 2016 Author Posted July 16, 2016 Ok... the elves don't show up on the main screen when selecting an empire? Or they don't show up in the galaxy?  The way it should work currently: Only 3 elves should show up. The SIdh, the Kingdom of Senalata, and the infamous Ascari. Well, and you have a 1/4 chance of an elfy fallen. All other elfies are off at the moment. The only way you can get the Sidh and Senalata to stop showing up is to edit both empires, save them without changing their names, and then set them to never appear. (Meaning, they are set to -always- appear in a new game.) OR... play as one of them!  Unless they aren't showing up at all when choosing an empire in which case something is certainly wrong.
Randomy Posted July 16, 2016 Posted July 16, 2016 Unfortunately it's the last thing. They do not appear at all when I try and choose/create an empire. I put the .mov in \Documents\Paradox Interactive\Stellaris\mod and the Elves folder in \Documents\Paradox Interactive\Stellaris\workshop\content\281990. I noticed that the Elves folder is a regular folder leading directly to the mods folders(gfx, sounds, common, etc.), unlike the steam stuff which has a numbered folder leading to a zip file.
Nessa Posted July 16, 2016 Author Posted July 16, 2016 Ah, OK sounds like it can't find the folder then. Especially if the mod shows up in your mod list. Â Make sure the folder "ElvesOfStellaris" as well as "ElvesOfStellaris.mod" are both in your "mod" folder. Â Any mods not from Steam require this setup. (That I know of at least!)
Randomy Posted July 16, 2016 Posted July 16, 2016 Thanks! Putting them both in the mods folder has it working. Good to know that's how to install non-steam mods.
Nessa Posted July 20, 2016 Author Posted July 20, 2016 UPDATE! Â Pre-FTL civs are now showing up. Hopefully not too many. Savage elves now have more clothes. More system initializer tweaks. Probably other stuff I've forgotten.

Sorry I totally bypassed your post Thanks for the mods, some of them are a little big but well, I'll try them when I'll have more experience with the game.  BTW, anyone knows how to not have anyone using the space elves graphics except the player? Maybe a mod?
Nessa Posted July 23, 2016 Author Posted July 23, 2016 @Ofinfin  Actually... not much chance of that with the current versions. You can stop the two prescripted civs (the ones that show up as a choice) by editing them without changing the name, and then setting them to never spawn. Other stuff like the fallens, pre-ftl's, and the infamous Ascari are all set to show up randomly. The bigger the map, the higher the chance. Previously, you'd just set the species class to not be random and that killed everything. Now you'd have to get rid of several files to completely stop any elves showing up.

Nessa Posted July 25, 2016 Author Posted July 25, 2016 You know... come to think of it, I think there would be a way that's pretty simple. Next update I might try and explain a few things. There are some values you can change at the top of some of the configuration files that would stop most of the spawning elves.
Nessa Posted July 27, 2016 Author Posted July 27, 2016 New update but it's now properly located here. Where it should have been from the start. Oops.
