cleavagesweat Posted June 11, 2016 Posted June 11, 2016 Hey guys, After reading alot of these help posts I thought it was time to start a dicussion about strategies to mitigate all the frustration mods can instill in our lives... After getting into the mod world and learning how uninstalling a mod doesn't always fix problems (especially if you're using NMM) I decided to do something about having to go through the whole task of uninstalling skyrim, folders, nexus & folders and reinstalling everything. Way back in the day when I was in IT we used a tool from Symantec called Ghost. This uses a central server that the application lives on and connects to other workstations via a router/switch. You can build your gaming PC to just how you like it and then create and upload a "snapshot" of that PC to the Ghost server storage (I would use non-ssd drives for this, in a raid config). If you install bad mods that just screw up everything you can just reinstall an image to a previous state. The whole process takes about 30 mins to restore an image. You need a seperate PC dedicated to being the Ghost server but these days most people have multiple PCs. You can get the software from CDW for like $30 for one license with one year support. * Keep in mind that this purchase comes with 2 tools, the "Ghost Solutions Suite", which you don't need and the Ghostcast Server, which is what you want. The process of creating a bootable disk (thumbdrive) takes a little work (I had to call Symantec for help as its a tad complicated) but I was up and running in a day. I've been using this method and its saved me alot of headache of trying to investigate why mod uninstalls are dirty (as in I don't... I just blow it away). So I was just curious as to what others are doing regarding similar purposes? btw, i know windows has that rollback "thing" but I think its awful.
