pemalites Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 im not entirely sure if this is allowed here or not, so i figured id make a topic to ask! didnt see any threads about it, and i know that converting things to different games is a no-no, but does it count here with a few fnv meshes & textures > fo3 or vice versa? sorry if this is the wrong place to post this or if this has already been answered!
Guest endgameaddiction Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 Yes, it counts. Â If it's not specifically already in Fallout 3, then it's violating Bethesda's terms. And breaking LL rules. Â You can freely port over all the things you want for yourself, but unless you have explicit permission from Bethesda themselves, it's considered copyright infringement. It's not treated any different than Oblivion assets to Skyrim and vice versa.
pemalites Posted June 10, 2016 Author Posted June 10, 2016 thanks so much!! i wasnt 100% sure so thank you for clarifying!
BoozeJunky Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 You can still use NV assets in FO3, but you cannot package and distribute them with your mod. You'll have to make NV and any relevant DLCs a requisite to your mod, and write out specific install instructions which provides a step-by-step method for users explaining how to extracting the meshes and textures from their BSAs and where to put them. Â I released a Missile Silo player home for FO3 using Lonesome Road assets, and it's still up I think, but was never very popular due to how complicated the install was precisely because I couldn't provide the proper assets. Nobody wants to go through that for a shitty newbie player home mod. Â So I'd say you could still do it if you really wanted, but (depending on how many assets you use) it could fuck your install process unless you're talented enough to write your own install program which automatically extracts the NV assets from the player's BSA and installs them in the proper place.
Guest endgameaddiction Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 They're better off just going the TTW route, TTW added reload benches in the DC wasteland and other stuff. So doing it that way is possible to have stuff from New Vegas in the Fallout 3 world.
pemalites Posted June 10, 2016 Author Posted June 10, 2016 using both routes sounds like a plan actually, theres not too many assets from fnv used in it (just some pillows, a vase, and like one poster iirc) still have to download TTW, do either of you know if fnvs GECK can handle loading all those dlcs though?? if not ill try it out for myself, anyways hope you both have a nice day! thanks!
Guest endgameaddiction Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 I don't know. I've never modded Fallout with TTW. FNV GECK liked to crash on me at random times so I rarely did anything for it.
