Sound replacement: Wilhelm Scream Death

Recommended Posts

Another request: would anyone mind telling me how I could replace a couple of death screams with the shamelessly comical Wilhelm scream?

I thought it would be appropriate since it was named after a man who took an arrow to the...thigh.

Doing it on humanoid NPC's may be tricky, but on monsters, it's pretty easy.

1.) Use the BSA Unpacker by Timeslip (the Oblivion version should work with the Skyrim version)

2.) Unpack "Skyrim - Sounds" bsa found in the data folder with the unpacker program to your desktop (or wherever).

3.) Looking at your exported sounds folder, you now have a guide on what your folder naming conventions should be. You're done with the UnPacker. Close it.

4.) Find the exported folder belonging to the monster you want to edit.

5.) Download the sound file of the Wilhelm Scream. If it isn't a .wav, you'll need to convert it. I recommend Audacity -- it's free.

6.) Throw the sound file into the necessary folder. Typically sound/fx/npc/(npc name)/death

For reference, consult the "Swearing Mudcrabs" mod. Basically, instead of applying the death sounds to a Mudcrab, you'd be doing it to something else.

For humanoid NPC's, it's more complicated (unless I'm overlooking something). Those use .fuz sound files, so you'll need to convert your .wav to .fuz and find the death sound file corresponding to the humanoid you want to edit. Furthermore, humanoids are categorized by race and gender, so you'll be doing a lot of copy pasting if you want a universally used Wilhelm Scream across multiple NPC's. That goes beyond the scope of my teaching patience, so have fun researching :).

So you're telling me the TC didn't even search for it on Nexus first!? And there's not just one, but TWO versions of it!? Man, epic face palm.
