NazWeed Posted May 21, 2016 Posted May 21, 2016 The game crashes upon loading a save if I enable the INI for modding. Otherwise it's perfectly fine.
2Dimm Posted May 21, 2016 Posted May 21, 2016 mine as well, use the old methodfirst remove the fallout4custom.ini and edit this in the fallout4.ini > sResourceDataDirsFinal=STRINGS\, TEXTURES\, MUSIC\, SOUND\, INTERFACE\, MESHES\, PROGRAMS\, MATERIALS\, LODSETTINGS\, VIS\, MISC\, SCRIPTS\, SHADERSFX\, VIDEO\ load time is a bit longer but at least it works
Spyder Arachnid Posted May 21, 2016 Posted May 21, 2016 Make sure for certain you are spelling it right. And that you are editing the proper files. Fallout4Prefs.ini should have: bEnableFileSelection=1 Under the Launcher section (located at the very bottom). Fallout4Custom.ini should have: bInvalidateOlderFiles=1sResourceDataDirsFinal= Under the Archive section. If it doesn't exist (the archive section), simply add this instead: [Archive] bInvalidateOlderFiles=1sResourceDataDirsFinal= Copy and paste those if you have to, and you should be good to go.
NazWeed Posted May 21, 2016 Author Posted May 21, 2016 I copied and pasted it from Gopher's description on his video though.
Smirenka Posted May 21, 2016 Posted May 21, 2016 It could be some of your mods. I know that a goodly number are broken right now, Killable Children being one that I found in my own list. Why have it? That mouthy little shit who gives the sub quest.
Spyder Arachnid Posted May 21, 2016 Posted May 21, 2016 Yeah gotta agree with Smirenka. The ini edits won't crash your game. It has to be a mod that is causing it. Go through your mods, check them for updates from wherever you got them, and clean out your mod folder. Then reinstall your mods little by little to try and find the culprit. It could be something as simple as a texture mod as well, so check those too. Eventually one will cause a crash (or multiples) when activated. So find out which it is, and dispose of it. if you need assistance, post your mod list here and we'll see if we can help. Even a simple thing as load order could cause a crash. But the ini edits, as long as you did them right, won't cause crashes.

Spyder Arachnid Posted May 21, 2016 Posted May 21, 2016 Did you go into your folders and delete any loose files as well? Not just disable them, but delete them. Then verify your cache via Steam to make sure you don't have any corrupt files.

Assuming you're running NMM as opposed to the MO2 beta, you need to purge the data directory as well, just simply disabling the esps/esms will not be terribly likely to fix your problem. Ironically, the reason mucking about with the .ini files is fixing it for some people would probably be related to the fact that they are disabling some of their mods by doing it the old way.
NazWeed Posted May 22, 2016 Author Posted May 22, 2016 How do I purge the data directory and delete loose files?
Spyder Arachnid Posted May 22, 2016 Posted May 22, 2016 Go into Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout 4\Data\ Wherever you have Steam installed of course (like for instance, mine is D:\Steam). If you are installing mods manually or via NMM, that is where they install to. First go into NMM and uninstall the mods you have installed there (if you're using NMM of course). Then go into your Data folder and delete all the folders in there and any mod .esp's and bsa's left behind that aren't official (don't worry about deleting all the folders, we'll take care of that). The official ones are Fallout 4 ones, and if you have DLC, the DLC Workshop (Wasteland Workshop), DLC Coast (Far Harbor), and DLC Robot (Automatron). Don't delete those, but delete anything else that is not related to those. Then go to your Documents\My Games\Fallout 4\ Delete the ini files in that folder. Fallout4.ini, Fallout4Prefs.ini, and Fallout4Custom.ini. You'll get new ones again, don't worry. Then start up Steam (or open it if you already have it running). Right click Fallout 4 in your game list and select properties. Under Local Files tab, there is a button that says "Verify Integrity of Game Cache". Click it and wait. It will go through your files and redownload any missing or corrupted ones. Once it's done, start up Fallout 4 via the launcher with NO mods installed to make sure all is good. If everything is good to go, then go ahead and make the ini edits you need and start up Fallout 4 again with NO mods. Should load up just fine with a fresh validation, no mods, and those ini edits only.
NazWeed Posted May 29, 2016 Author Posted May 29, 2016 The default INI files work, but modded INI files do not.
