nufndash Posted May 11, 2016 Posted May 11, 2016 I am trying to learn more about the texture files, but by just reading post after post of just problems, I'm not getting a clear understanding. I was wondering if someone could just give some simple(and by that I mean Forest Gump type simple), definitions to some of the file types, and how some people say they use a combination of texture files. And I notice many download files talk about "normal maps", I don't have a clue what that is. One other thing that has been bothering me is.....say you downloaded a common texture pack like SG renewed, and you download add on's like Feminine Hands, or Seductive lips, they seem to overwrite the same .dds file, I am confused how some are able to have all these add on's on one character, if the files are overwriting each other. I really appreciate your time if you can help at all. Thank you in advance.
Ky Kiske Posted May 11, 2016 Posted May 11, 2016 Can't really go into too much detal because I don't really know much but can make it really short and simple: A)Textures files without any suffix, are your base texture files (how the skin looks) I belive it's called diffuse map. B)Textures with _msn suffix are the normal maps which is used for stuff like muscle toning or the lack of it. C)Textures with the _s suffix are the specular which are used for stuff like making parts of the body glossy like the lips or sweat/wet effects. As long as they are for the same body type you can combine any of those 3 from different texture packs, just to name an example diffuse from mature, normals from fair skin and specular from SG, you can do the combination for the head, hands, feet and body tough you probably want the same combination on the body, hands and feet, also if you don't like X texture pack makeup you can change the tinktmasks as well.
