Kashiwaba Tomoe Posted May 16, 2012 Posted May 16, 2012 Yeah, last year Daggerfall became freeware http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Daggerfall:Files Enjoy.
Guest Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 Thanks. I'm on the fence though, the graphics are extremely primitive, but if I ever get bored I might play it. Maybe they should make this a downloadable app on the app store?
Kashiwaba Tomoe Posted May 18, 2012 Author Posted May 18, 2012 It'd likely be a real pain or not work on a phone, keyboard+mouse really needed. Actually the interface is the main annoying feature for me, just so hard to use really, it's like even back then bethesda loved to fuck shit up.
FusRoDah Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 The most annoying for me is that once you get outside, The Awkward 2.5D in combination with the low view distance and the giant map makes it confusing and really hard to Navigate.
Symon Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 Daggerfalls interface has always made the game unplayable for me. Who thought 'Hold Right Mouse And Swish' was a good idea?
Kashiwaba Tomoe Posted May 18, 2012 Author Posted May 18, 2012 Yeah Symon, that was prerry annoying, they coulda done a system similar to oblivion/skyrim, etc; but instead opted to be overly clever, and botched it. If they had just opted to go for the FPS style gameplay of the latter games in the series (easily possible in that era) it would have been fucking awesome and better than anything Bethesda's done since. On that note, I still can't remember how to draw/fire the bow. Quite annoying since I used to prefer bow work last time I played it.
Daguy Posted May 19, 2012 Posted May 19, 2012 Actually I found it pretty intuitive and easy to get a handle on, once the intial 'this isn't what i'm used to' phase wore off. Its actually a lot more immersive than 'click' button to swing sword. Morrowind felt like a step backwards in combat. It basically what Mount and Blade does, except it allows you to 'hold' the attack. Which ever direction you sweep your mouse as you attack is where the attack goes. It also reminds me of some of the better Wii games, such as Twilight Princess, just without motion sensors. I'm aware i'm in the minority with these thoughts though.^^
Guest GingerTom Posted May 19, 2012 Posted May 19, 2012 I'm with you Daguy. Did anybody know that Daggerfall was the size of Britain if you walked across it--I tried walking but gave that up quickly. It was a great game--but I'm not sure I could stand it today.
xartom Posted May 20, 2012 Posted May 20, 2012 I had the same situation with Arena, I walked for probably an hour real time until I figured out fast travel existed. I played Daggerfall a lot growing up, so most of the positive fuzzy memories I have of it are through a nostalgic lens. I hear the tavern music on Youtube and feel nostalgic. When I actually play now and I hear it for the millionth time on a quest and want to swack a randomly generated townperson with a daedric blade. There was always something to do thanks to the randomly generated everything. Being directionally challenged, Daggerfall's dungeons were an epic challenge to quest or roam in. I spent who knows how many hours being hopelessly lost. Daggerfall had a lot of atmosphere... and naked people.
