Is there a depository of pre-restringed mods for large well known mods like Interesting NPCs and Immersive Armors? Specifically tested and working restrung mods that is, for those not quite with the technical skills to dive into and restring their load order entirely.

No, there is not. It's a good idea though.

 

The biggest issue is who would maintain it. I barely have time enough for working on the applications themselves. And ReStringer has a very small audience; not many people hit the string limit, and those that do are usually running Crash Fixes anyway. So out of a small audience, it's hard to find someone who wants to volunteer their efforts for something like that.

 

That said, if anyone wants to upload premade ReStringer patches, I'll be happy to list them on the download page or something.

Yeah I am using Crash Fixes, but last time this happened (before this whole thing became known) I lost a save with a 99 % main Skyrim completion, I'm talking all the words, all the masks, all the Stones of freaking Barenziah, quadruple guildmaster, and I was just about to head onto that Dragonborn DLC I have never played... losing that much progress at once made me delete Skyrim and stay away for about a year almost. This time I am going to be goddamn sure I am in the safe. According to TESVESSE I have currently 52938 strings, and I still want to install the damn Legacy of the Dragonborn once that comes out of it's curent beta. That plus completing vanilla + DLC + Elseweyr in Legacy + Falskaar + Gray Cowl + Spectraverse + Dwemertech will certainly put me above the count, so I need to be damn sure I'm not going to become irrevocably stuck in the middle of it.

So definitely restring Legacy of the Dragonborn, Falskaar, Gray Cowl, Spectraverse and Dwemertech. They're all perfect candidates for Restringing.

Can I restring a mod without starting a new save, or should that be done only before installing the mod/starting a new character?

 

You would need to uninstall the mod, restring it, and then reinstall it.

Used the restringer accidentally on Live Another Life, figuring it was an end mod. When I got up from the solitude docks after starting there, Roggvir's execution refused to start, and every NPC in solitude was frozen in place, acting very confused. Instead of Taarie giving the normal non-dialogue box response she gives if you try to talk to her while she's standing at default start, I was able to talk to her as normal, and get the show elisif the outfit quest, after doing that + The Mind of Madness she was still watching the still very alive Roggvir.

Live Another Life is a special case, because it overwrites Skyrim's core scripts. So Restringing it is basically restringing part of Skyrim's core scripts.

 

I'll add a note to the front page explicitly stating to absolutely NOT restring LAL.

Okay, thank you.

 

I have currently restrung Dwemertech, Spectraverse and Legacy. Do you know if Legacy affects Falskaar and Helgen Reborn enough that they can't be restrung? Even with that, when added to my animations (almost 2 pages in Sexlab, bestiality disabled, disabled animations suppressed in Sexlab MCM) I am still at 53516 strings on level 1. I want to make sure that this game won't die even on level 200 and Dwemertech, Spectraverse Falskaar, Helgen Reborn, and the massive Legacy done plus all of vanilla (I have actually never visited Solstheim even in 3600 hours of play, due to my games dying before I got that far). Can you see any other mods in my load order that I should restring? Other than WAA Patches which is Weapons and Armor Attributes add-on patches merged and DBM Patches which is all of the Legacy patches merged, all ESPs are as default.

There some simple tests to see if a mod is safe to restring.

 

1) If you disable the mod, does it break any other scripted mods? Campfire, for example, fails this test because it breaks Frostfall. Legacy passes this test because I don't know of any scripted mods that have it as a dependency.

 

2) Does it override any scripts belonging to other mods, or any scripts from the core game? Brawl Bugs, Wildcat, and Live Another Life all fail this test. I'm pretty sure Legacy passes it.

It's now confirmed by the author of Legacy that using the Restringer the standard fashion actually breaks certain aspects of Legacy, notable some of the containers and activatables in the Safehouse just stops working the way they should, and there could be issues with some of the later game quests in Legacy as well. Legacy author has put the Restringer on the incompatibility list for his mod.

 I've had issues with Legacy several play through's regarding Museum Activators not working-more i played to the end of that Mod the more chance they break. Thing is i haven't used re-stringer.

 

When exactly was this? If you go back to V13 and earlier there were a lot of bugs in the mod that has been fixed since then along with the expansion. Go back even further and the mod was a mess, LL's own uglykidcid stepped in and rebuilt the mod ground up and fixed the majority of errors, as well as taught the author how to avoid them, and the mod has been improving pretty steadily since then.

 

Also ntoe that if you are running something like Immersive Weapons, that puts several weapons like Crysamere, Goldbrand and Ice Blade of the Monarch into the game that shouldn't be there if you are playing Legacy, and it will have the wrong formIDs and so won't be recognized by the stands.

 That could been it. Version 14 and lately the 15.2  has problems with the replica and deposit your stuff bench. The problem seems to appear new the end of the Legacy playthrough. Is there an equilavent for Immersive weapons?, yes i used the patch for it.

There is no need to not use Immersive Weapons, sorry if I gave that impression.

 

Legacy's installer can install a Immersive Weapons patch, get that, load IW before Legacy, then run a TES5Merged.esp, according to these instructions;

 

 

After you make the patch open up the non-player characters part, and look for NPC edits to inventories that Immersive Weapons does and that Legacy does, and make sure that for example Orchendor do not get Chrysamere unless Legacy also gives it to Orchendor. In that case you will have two Crysameres in your game. Same goes with the Goldbrand carried by the Champion of Boethia, and one (two spawns) of the Mace of Aevarr Stone-Singer during the Skull of Corruption quest Waking Nightmares. Make sure the priest guy only carries the mace if Legacy wants him to have it. If you figure out that they are ending up with the weapons regardless, such as due to your bashed patch, go into Immersive Weapons ESP, open NPC edits and delete the erronerous NPCs that should not get the weapons they are handed, then rebuild your bashed and ASIS patches.

Does anyone know if Restringer has been reported to successfully minimize the amount of string usage LoTD runs? Particularly whenever PC enters/exits and interacts with scripted objects in this mod's interior cells?

 

I have 222 active and 57 ghosted mods for a total of 279 mods.  I use both Tes5EditMerged and Bash Patches to stabilize this mod deck.  I cleaned my mod deck with Loot and removed any deleted navmeshes etc where necessary. Wrye indicates a 100% stable load order and save games (green and blue masters respectively). But I get CTD/game instability due to the excess number of strings associated with my script heavy mods.  Namely

 

Private Needs Redone 4.0

SexLabs

Animated Prostitution

ZaZ

Legacy of the Dragonborn Museum <-- the deal breaker to date

 

So I'm hoping to use Restringer to minimize the number of script/strings the game engine has to use (whenever using a script heavy mod like LoTD, ZaZ or SexLabs). I read the vanilla engine has a max limit of 64K strings somewhere on LL. So I installed performance tweak/utilities like CrashFixes, ENBoost PapyruUtil etc. etc. Enabled all the necessary tweaks to give me feedback on system usage. 

 

Right after starting a new save and game using Live Another Life, the memory usage is 

16 block = 100% and 32 block 85%. 

 

PC fast travels to Solitude to test the LoTD mod 

16 and 32 memory block usage is same as it was when PC exited the prison cell. PC can now successfully enter LoTD without CTD (after installing tweaks like CrashFixes).

 

PC enters LoTD museum and memory usage is slightly higher after entering museum

16 block = 100% and 32 block approx 88%

 

PC tries to enter the Library/sleeping quarters (the heaviest scripted area in LoTD)

16 block = 100% and 32 block > 100% <-- this is unpredictable. Library/private room area sometimes loads. But game unstable and likely CTD when PC tries to leave this cell for main LoTD museum area and/or exit museum to Solitude exterior

 

Does anyone know whether Restringer has successfully lowered the string count on LoTD? This mod has an INSANE number of scripts associated with it by default of its nature as the ultimate collection mod. I don't wan't to do all the work trying to patch LoTD if the string count isn't minimized enough to stabilize my game.... :cry:

Background for LoTD and SexLabs/ZaZ users: 

 

Before installing LoTD, I had ZaZ and SexLabs installed for my 2 FNIS mods. I needed the former for Private Needs Redone 4.0 and both for Animated Prostitution. I only use PN Redone for PC poop/pee animations, so none of the kinky critter/NPC stuff. So I use the vanilla plugin esp which adds these scripts and don't require ZaZ to be enabled. The script heavy AP mod has been disabled to date until this script CTD issues is resolved. I'm testing a new save game using Live Another Life (forcibly loading all scripts inside the starter prison cell to stop overwhelming the game engine on start). So really, NEITHER ZaZ or SexLabs are enabled/running when LoTD is. 

 

Despite this and once LoTD is installed, my top level gamer rig can't save the game engine from unpredictably busting the 4K RAM ceiling. I'd get CTD the moment my PC tried to enter the museum. Game instablility minimized on installing utilities like ENBoost, CrashFixes, PapyrusUtil etc etc. But this didn't stop unpredictable CTD inside the LoTD museum.

 

The LoTD mod author confirmed this and said it's close to impossible to run LoTD with the ZaZ/SexLab suite. HOWEVER, he also indicated there are special cases? in which some people found a way to make LoTD work with these 2 script intensive mods. And basically pointed me towards the LL forums. Which is where I came across this thread for Restringer.

You could associate .jar with java. right click on the .jar file, and click on properties. Then click on the Opens with: Change button, then find your java folder if need be.

 

Or you could create a shortcut for the Restringer.jar file. Again right click on the .jar file and select 'create shortcut'. Then right click on the new shortcut and click on properties and place this in the target changing the directorys to fit your configuration of course. C:\ProgramData\Oracle\Java\javapath\javaw.exe -DNWN2.install.path="G:\GameModdingTools\ElderScrolls\Restringer" -Xmx256m -jar Restringer.jar

 

The -Xmx256m is to tell it to use 256 megs of memory if I remember right.
