How to get a mod-added race to use different armor meshes?

Trying to get a follower to use armor/clothing meshes that correspond to her body type, rather than use the armor/clothing meshes every other npc is using. 

From digging around in TesEdit I've found that an entry called "RNAM - Armor Race" which is set to the default race. How would I create a new armor race for the character to use? Or am I going in the entirely wrong direction?
