Say I wanted to remove all my mods and reinstall without losing my game

As the title says, I have been running into a lot of CTDs as I have been learning how to use MO (loot, TES5edit, boss, etc). I had some mods that could just be removed so I did that, now getting it streamlined is where I am at. The problem is when ever I move things around in my LEFT pane for mod order (I let MO and loot do the ESMs), somethings work and some don't. I then move around again and same problem happens with something else. Some mods have a long list of conflicts and I'd like to reduce them and make this thing run smooth as I am lucky my CTDs happen shortly after a quicksave or autosave. However every time I have to start the game I have to run FNIS or I get a CTD on loading.

No doubt some of you have ideas on whats going on right away, if you are willing to help and want my logs or whatever, I can post, I'm not ashamed I'm a perv.

Not only do I want to run smooth, I'd like to make Skyrim prettier. Watching youtube vids sometimes makes me all sad because mine doesn't look as pretty.

I'm on my third install of the game and over 300 hours and I have yet to complete the main quest or take a side in the civil war. This last install I added the DLCs mid way so I don't want to start over.

Any advice would be appreciated or links to a how to, would be sooo helpful and much loven given.

Lastly, a huge thank you to everyone who mods or contributes in someway! You guys/gals do a ton of work and it's amazing, truly amazing!

Hello!

If you can post your load order, maybe somebody can tell you which mod is better to remove.

Now, you play, so you have to enjoy your game. Your priorities are not the same as other people. So maybe a line or two of what are the things you like most, are useful to give an hint to try to clean a load order.

Post also what your rig is, so people can advise on what graphical settings/mods/plugins/extension should be used.

And, lastly. Your request should go in: Skyrim Technical Support.

It is your very first post so it will be moved by a Moderator. No penalties.

Thank you for the reply.

Mod, please move my post. Apologies for posting in the wrong forum. That said...

Do you mean load order from the right pane or the left pane? If you mean Left pane like I am asking do I export the csv or is there a better way that is cleaner?

I like the beast mods (animal mansion and beastess) and related. I am also running SLdefeat. So trying to get the most out of the game in those regards. I think I may have too many animations (5007 according to FNIS for 15 mods).

My rig... Is a little dated, but still runs it fine. I do wonder if I can run some of the environmental improvement mods.

Intel 2300K 3.4ghz
16gb Gskill ram
Radeon 7970
OCZ SSDs in Raid 0

Game sits on a storage drive Seagate 750gb regular HD.

FYI, even though I have TES5edit, I am still noobish with it. I watched the STEP video on using it but I am afraid to use it on regular mods and have not used it to clean Dawnguard and Dragonborn DLCs yet.

At the very least here is my FNIS output. Some mods you may say should be updated, but to make you aware, whenever I update a mod I get CTDs until I restore from backup. Another reason to redo this fresh.

Actually it is the "Right panel" in Mod Organizer. I don't need to know what is possible in your install, but what are you using.

Your FNIS is good, just remove "GENDER Specific Animations" patch, because probably you don't need it. (That is not a big deal.)

Your rig is not too bad. It can run Skyrim with all its splendor.

Your load order is pretty light.

next time put is in a SPOILER.

So you have little graphical results, correct? Is this your problem?

Try the high resolution pack (free download from Stream) and maybe ENB to improve the graphic quality.

I have good "stock" graphics, which yes, I want to use ENB and thank you for saying my system should handle it.

The problem is CTDs and fooling with mod priority in MOs left pane. On the animal sex stuff either the animal is... hmm... ill equipped or they don't move at all and the taker is backwards. I have tried resetting animations in just about every mod, sometimes that gets them moving again, but then they have no dong. I just feel my setup is very buggy. Thank you for taking your time in assisting me, much appreciated.

I have an i5-2500k running @ 3.6ghz and was using the same GPU as you are and ran an enb. I run near a full esp/esm load with no issues so you should be able to as well, just watch for mods that use a lot of resources.

Graphics-wise I suggest not going over 1k on terrain and such as it will max out the VRam and can cause crashes or slowdowns. On enb's stay away from the more demanding ones, I use the EVOK enb which has several variations in it (I use the Fantasy one myself, it looks good and isn't much of a performance hit).

On the crashes look at the mods that scan the area constantly, if they have the option to reduce how often they do it then do so. I know that Creature Framework is set to 5 seconds as a default, I set it to 30 and reduced the scan range to 1/2 a cell. When I ran it on the default it would cause instability for me.

For animals facing the wrong way try unchecking the 'Match Creature Genders' setting in SexLab on the animations page, it may be reversing the roles and the animation is not set up for it.

I have no idea on anything MO related, I still use an older version of NMM (v0.56.1 I think), I don't do a lot of what everyone says you should do but things still run well for me.

I usually try many new mods and forget to uninstall them later. I once lost my entire Falkreath to some mod. There was literally only a hole in its place. And I once noticed to have made Argonians into brutish raptor beasts without actually having an Argonian character or follower. So I also did many reinstalls of Skyrim to start with a clean game over the years. This is how I usually do it (I use NMM and have all these in different mod categories for convenience):

Make sure you are in a vanilla place (not building or continent added by mods).

Make a new save, to prevent any potential damage to the main save (here you can test thing without bothering to lose anything).

Backup your saved files.

Make a screenshot of the installed mods. This is for a reminder of what mods you'll want to add later.

Unistall and delete all mods manually. This is for the mod manager. A simple unistall of Skyrim probably wouldn't affect the mod manager itself.

Unistall Skyrim. You could technically just install it into the same folder again (faster since the files are already there) but that doesn't get rid of mod leftovers.

Manually delete anything still in the Skyrim folder. These are mod leftovers.

Install Skyrim again (I have the Legendary Edition for convenience).

Add your old saves.

Install essential mods first.  Various fixes and Unofficial patches.

Install mods that affect the UI. Maps, SkyUI, SKSE, etc.

Install mods that make the game prettier. Body, face, hair, skeleton, blood, etc. It usually takes a bit of experimenting to get the perfect results. No neckseam and such. Especially if you are a vampire. Now everything looks better. Time to go overboard.

Install overhaul mods. Cities, landscapes, weather, skies, spells/talents, followers, armors, elves, beast races, roads, lanterns, whatever you want. Now you can probably log in on your main save without losing anything that came from mods (race, weapons, armor, spells, etc). And your game looks so much deeper. Time to add a little life to it.

Install mods that add life. AI overhauls (for NPCs and animals), player voice, sounds, patrols, animations (obviously with FNIS), etc. This is the game you want to play.

Install an ENB. Something I didn't know before, was that ENBs can only work with Nvidia video cards.

Install quest/continent mods to get more content. There are several good ones (Falskaar, Wyrmstooth, Undeath, Moonpath, among others).

Last but not least, install LL mods of your choice. I usually do this lastly, because they are the ones that could cause problems. The site is pretty messy when it comes to descriptions, versions, requirements and such. I have a separate "adult mods" folder for them, and it has about as many mods as everything else. Mostly requirements. And I honestly can't tell what many of them actually do. I really should have put any requirements into a folder that says what do they belong to.

Make the regular mod category (the one NMM initially puts any new mods into) into a "TEST" folder. And only mods that have been tested and found safe and wanting should be moved out of it. Anything else should be deleted to avoid unecessary mods "hiding" among other stuff.

I have never used the High Res textures, as my PC is good but probably not that good. A year ago I had a freezing winter Skyrim with survival and camping, but right now I made my Skyrim into a dark fantasy with mods like Dark Fantasy Overhaul (shocking eh?) and its ENB, Honored Dead, Armored Skeletons, Necromancy, Undeath, Truly Undead, and such. Beautiful. And lorefriendly, of course. Even my LL mods are kind of lorefriendly. And I never have CTDs with my 140+ mods. If I had, I could immediately know what caused it from my mod categories and install dates. Some say I'm a bit of a neat freak, but apparently it works.

Thank you very much for taking the time to reply so long and for the advice. You have taken a lot of time getting this right and I think I could do it as well. Wish there was an easier way, but oh well, if this is how it has to be, then so be it.

Mange your load order with LOOT, but don't let that assume everything is going to work properly. A perfect example is NPC overhauls that can cause dark/grey faces because a certain plugin below another is causing that.

Since you use MO, I suggest when ever you build your game with mods, if you reach a point where you are playing and it's very stable with no issues. Backup your profile inis. Your mod list, load order etc... That way you can resort back to that if newer installed mods give you problems.

I recently removed Ultimate Deadly Encounters - The Way of The Dovahkiin aka Sands of Time because that mod is just too unstable. Had it for a long time and finally decided to try it. Pity, but oh well. It is what it is. Evidently you are going to run into mods like this that give you problems. I suggest you always create a hard save before you install a new mod. The mod may not give you problems at first and eventually will at a later time.

I go through this a lot, so I'm telling you from someone who learned the hard way, back up your profile inis, and always create a save before installing a new mod that has scripts. It will say you the stress.
