jslot file trouble

i'm hoping this is the right place to post this.

for some reason my skse plugins folder doesn't contain  CharGen/Preset folders needed to load those types of presets into my game. i've got the latest version of skse. was this only available in an earlier version? i want to play around with conan http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/64277/?

but without those folders i can't and creating them myself doesn't work either. and yes my game is legit. any ideas what's going on here?

Should be in the SKSE\Plugins\CharGen\Presets\

Assuming of course the mod is not mod manager of some sort friendly in which case just installing the mod should put them in the right place.

And oddly enough unless you save some presets racemenu dose not create the folder as standard, or at least it did not the last time I did a base install, your best bet is create the folder structure, zip/rar or what ever it up, then add that as a mod, then just past the jslot files you want to use into that mod, and they should show up.

RaceMenu does not create the file path until a preset and head is exported in RaceMenu. You'll have to manually create the path yourself.

so to see what would happen, i brought up my game, brought up racemenu, exported the head of my current character which created a CharGen folder inside the skse plugins folder. however, there still was no presets folder to be seen. once again i manually created one and dropped the conan jslot file inside. brought up the game, showracemenu, presets F9 and nothing but a failed to load preset from slot 0 message.

Hmm, odd, the folder should be skyrim\data\SKSE\Plugins\CharGen\Presets\  If its there and the jslot is in the right place, f9 should work, if it isn't then it sounds like there is something else going on.

Are you using a mod manager? is so which?

Fair enough, nmm is an decent mod manager, I used it myself for a couple of years, ok try installing this;

SKSE.7z

It should contain 2 jslot files one called akair and one called alice, just install it with nmm, and it should drop them where they are supposed to be, then try using f9 to load presets, if it dose not work then there is something else going on in the background.

Just checked it with my mod manager, which is mod organizer and it shows as being in the correct location. Let me know what happens, if it works you can use it as a base mod and just add any jslot you want to it and then keep re-installing it to add them to your game.

ok. i did as you suggested and even though it did generate the folders in their proper places i still couldn't get anything to load. i will also add that ever since i've been playing skyrim and modding the game, skse has never had the CharGen/Presets folders to my knowledge. i discovered this the first time i wanted to use the mod i linked above. i even tried to get the mod author to switch it to this type of mod http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/59402/?

because this one and others like it work just fine for me. jslots never have and i don't understand why. i've even uninstalled and reinstalled skse and still no chargen/presets folders.

actually, if i knew how to convert a jslot file into a slot file i could get conan to work for me. any ideas how to do that?

If you want to try, all you have to do is delete .jslot and add .slot and it will change the file extension. I don't know if it may corrupt the file and cause it to not work, but just back it up and give it a try.

What version of RaceMenu are you using?

I downloaded the Conan preset on the OP link and dropped it into SKSE\CharGen\Presets and it loaded fine.  I don't use the same textures so it looked nothing like it but the preset loaded fine in RM.

Isn't jslot exclusive to RM3+?  So if you are using an old version of RM then it wouldn't show up.

That's why I was asking him what version of RM he uses, because I'm not sure if older RM used the .slot. I have seen RM presets in the past use the .slot extension, but I started getting into RM once it was v3+ even though I had older versions.

Sigh, never even though about which version they were using, but there again I assume most people will be using the latest version, shows what I get for assuming things dose it not :s:P

well, i thought i had the latest until i actually checked. apparently the latest version came out some time after i started using the one i had and i was never aware of it.
