Good Cheap/Free Podcasting Software

I have to do a podcast as my final assignment in one of my classes. Does anyone know of some decent podcasting software for recording and editing voice/audio that's either dirt cheap or free?

+1 for audacity. If all you need to do is to record some audio from a microphone and do some editing afterwards (remove noise, cut out some mistakes, fade-in and out...), then audacity is definitly the way to go. It's free software by the way.

Audacity is the way to go for sound editing, unless you're an institution with a budget of over a thousand dollars.

And it's free, so I can't see any reason not to use it.
