Kinky Posted February 15, 2016 Posted February 15, 2016 Hi everyone! After seeing some amazing upcomming mods for Skyrim i would like to try some scripting. My main problem is not learning the language but instead setting up the environment. What i want to know is what programs most of you use for writing scripts? My goal is to evade Creation Kit as much as i can (loading times are a pain). I tried to use Sublime text 3 before and i couldnt set it up to work with Mod Organizer (some 64bit issues) so after losing whole day on trying that i gave up. So in short: MO + what program (No CK please)? How do i set it up so that it works and can compile scripts? What is good place to find tutorials for scripting in Skyrim? I think ive seen some topics on LL before but now i cant find any.
darkconsole Posted February 16, 2016 Posted February 16, 2016 i use Sublime Text 3 added to MO as an EXE that way ST3 can compile scripts without me having to start CK. there is also a papyrus package for ST3 for syntax highlighting. http://www.loverslab.com/blog/199/entry-938-compiling-scripts-mod-organiser-creation-kit-sublime-text-3/ post is agnsty because i thought that was the online persona i wanted. and i wrote it after getting no sleep. you can probably skip the MOCKFix stuff - that was so CreationKit compiling would work mainly.
Guest Posted February 16, 2016 Posted February 16, 2016 I use Notepad++ with the Papyrus notation and a small command to compile scripts directly in the MO Mod folder.
darkconsole Posted February 16, 2016 Posted February 16, 2016 i went ahead and revised that blog post to remove some of the excessive angst and the mockfix stuff since it turns out i and nobody i know has ever used that feature since going through the effort to make it work. it now reads a straight step-by-step for getting ST3 to compile scripts via MO with the resulting .pex file ending up in the mod directory instead of overwrite.

So from that i take it that ST3 64-bit is a "no go" for MO users, but 32 bit can be run like any other 3rd party aplication? Is ST3 better then Notepad ++?
darkconsole Posted February 16, 2016 Posted February 16, 2016 ST3 is "dark notepad++" basically. yes MO for skyrim only worked with 32bit things.
Guest Posted February 16, 2016 Posted February 16, 2016 ST3 is slightly better then NP++, but the improvements are minimal. Consider that ST is not free and NP++ is free.
