On armors, and not just one particular armor. I have tried different armors, same occurs.

Its truely just  a minor inconvenience, as re-equipping the armor fixes it.

I suspect its a memory problem.

Just wondering if anyone has had the same problem.

This problem though exist prior to upgrading my GPU and is still present, which is why I am surprised.

You said you tried different armors. Are they all from the same mod or all armors in all mods appear black?

Memory shortage issues usually turn armors a light purple colour, I think. Not sure, however, but it has happened to me that way.

Yes, so I am sure it isn't mod related.

Different armors all turn black on load.

Usually those equipped on the body i e not gloves etc.

Forgot to mention, does not occur after the first load.

Meshes appearing purple = textures not being loaded because the mesh can't find them in a predetermined path or there are no texture files present.

Meshes turning black = vram maxing out.

Optimizing and adding mipmaps to textures will alleviate the black meshes.  If you are using high-poly meshes like from SMIM then that can contribute to high vram usage.

Must be the enhanced polygon vanilla armors. Unfortunately I haven't been able to find a good alternative.

There was recently one uploaded but still only alpha stages

Not entirely true. There are times the textures don't load when there isn't enough RAM available to complete the task.

So only those armors are affected by the black texture problem? Reason I ask is that you may have a deeper vram problem because you said all armor are acting the same way.

That never happened to me.  Whenever I got purple meshes I was able to pinpoint the cause to the meshes looking for textures in one folder and the textures are in another or there are no textures because the author of the mod forgot to include them.

I once tried out a castle mod or something, I forget exactly, but there were rows upon rows of dummies that I had equipped with gear that I had picked up from fallen enemies etc. Got bad to the point where many of the armors turned purple, even though they worked fine when equipped outside.

Could be Ram issues or could be something else like the the castle mod.  I only have 2gb reserved for vram and can run SMIM, K-ENB Purelight, and optimized textures, and my game's fps will stutter, but no purple textures ever appear.

Could very well be. I assumed exactly what you said, missing textures from mods, but there were no discernible problems. The strange thing is, when I saved and restarted, the textures appeared properly. Go outside, play a while and come back, and the problem returned.

I didn't look into it much longer after that. Got bored with collecting so much crap, heh, so tried something new.

I never used any mod that adds more mannequins to existing homes or custom player homes so I can't say for sure if it will never happen to me.

Well, I wasn't sure then, and I'm still not sure now. I only made assumptions based on how the textures behaved. I would be interested to know for sure , though.

I have a feeling that the high-poly armor replacers are just too much for the average pc.  You can have a count high enough to make it look good in game, but too much is just too much for a game like Skyrim.

But this problem was there despite my upgrade to a 980ti, my last card was 580 and it was there.

So I assume its one of the mods that are eating at my VRAM, and it could be SMIM or any of my 2k texture packs or the high poly armors.

I probably should optimize my textures, its the last thing I have on my so called Skyrim modding to-do list. I have just been lazy to do it.

I can confirm its a memory problem, and which mod is overloading my game.

I am sad now because its Immersive Citizens, the mod is continually expanding and it will only get worse.

I get CTDs fast travelling to whiterun and after uninstalling, the CTDs are gone and so are the black textures :(

Increasing block 1 will cause CTDs else where and can occur during combat or even loading all my crazy armor mods during smithing.

perhaps i have an exception to this.

i have two versions of an armor mod. lets call them A and B. A is the original. B is the modified version. (this is an actual problem that i'm having right now btw.) I was unable to obtain version A so i resorted to using version B. version B looked nicer. however i was not able to see my hands in the first person view when using the armor's gauntlets. eventually i got version A of the armor. with a clean save etc. I installed version A and the problem with my hands in the first person view was solved. however when i saved and exit to desktop and then started the game again and loaded that save, my character would have black armor textures and purple skin textures (skin textures on her cleavage). re-equipping the armor fixes it.

Now the black armor textures were occurring for version A, the original. however for version B, this never happened. so i did some digging and I saw that version B had smaller texture files. So i copied those smaller texture files and tried to use them in version A. upon loading, i still got the black textures. =\. I had used version B for a long period of time and i never got black textures. even my followers have this armor on as well (3 followers) and it never happened. somehow i feel the problem is the .esp file. if i take the .esp from version A and copy it into version B and use that mixture, i'll get black textures. the damned thing is version B's .esp file is also messed up because i cant see my hands in the first person view. (while I can see them fine when using version A.) I tried comparing the .esp files in the CK but everything looks the same.

this is not the first time that an armor from this same mod author has done this.
