R0R0N0 Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 Just an idea I thought of the other day. What if all the voices were replaced with ones that have the effect of "hand over mouth" Here is a good example of what I'm talking about: This way you can create new dialogue options and create new quest lines while keeping an immersive and consistent tone in terms of voicework. After replacing everything, I think we would get something akin to the dialouge sounds in Golden Sun. Just thought I'd throw it out there, maybe someone will expand on it.
lurkerfrombelow Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 Curiously, I've been toying with a similar idea: 1: Replace all player (and perhaps some or all NPC) dialog with the Japanese voice files 2: Alter dialog strings so the female player is a Japanese exchange student (possibly) adopted instead of a lawyer mother 3: ??? 4: Play through the game with subtitles enabled, and hope what little Japanese I do know won't spoil the immersion into the alternate backstory. If it works really well, it'll be like playing an interactive anime or jrpg
Catmonster Posted December 20, 2015 Posted December 20, 2015 On the same track, one possibility that went through my mind would be using partial voice lines for NPC interactions. For example you pick the "affirmative" option, your character says "Yes, I'd like to go do <xyz>" or "Sure, sounds like a good plan" or whatever in subtitles, but all that is actually voiced is the word 'yes.' I'm pretty sure I remember the same technique being used in older games with limited voice acting, and it wouldn't be too difficult to put together a list of 20-30 generic voiced phrases to use.
