PC is shutting down randomly. Not overheating.

A few days ago I was watching a youtube video and my PC just powered off completely as if the whole thing lost power.

I did a harddrive test and found no errors and I checked my temperatures which are very good.

I do not think it is a hardware problem because my computer is acting strange.

The first time it shut off it acted as if it was installing windows 10 for the first time but then applied a windows update.

Every time I turn it back on after a random shut down it starts with the purple screen and shows the spinning loading screen as if it needs to update windows. After that it goes to the login screen then flashes the purple screen with the loading bar again then loads the desktop.

Also my main harddrive was stuck at 100% usage and the PC was running very slow until I found a fix on the internet.

I'm not sure if  I have a nasty virus because antimaleware bytes and windows defender found nothing but the PC behaves like there is. I did use utorrent a hour before the problem happened but I do not know if it is just a coincidence.

I also used to have a problem for months where my PC would sometimes not turn on at all until I unplugged and plugged back in all my parts. I stopped turning my PC off and just left it running after that because I just spent a lot of money replacing parts and gifts but I can't tell if it's that old problem just getting worst in some way or something else due to the strange start up behavior.

Sounds like there's a problem with your power supply, in addition possible other issues.

Get this:
http://usa.kaspersky.com/downloads/TDSSKiller

Run that, let it check for issues. Let it fix issues.

Get CCleaner, clean your registry and any temp files.

Get Avast (Freeware), and run boot scan. Boot scans are more thorough than other scans, as they are performed before the system technically starts up all the way, allowing greater access to your machine.

If Avast finds anything DELETE ALL!!!

Typical signs of a faulty power supply are, as stated, random shut downs regardless of system temp. If you're having issues with PC performance, there is likely some sort of malware involved as a failing power supply wouldn't impact running system performance. In other words if it doesn't work 100%, it will not work at all (hence the random shut downs).

What are the specs of your machine? Also, how many hard drives do you have? I'm also sure that since you've built your machine you know how many watts your power supply is?

i had a simlar issue before and it wind up that vid card was about to fail and was probaly drawing to much powerw.

normaly its either power supply, a componet is drawing to much or even the thermal gel on the cpu could be dried out.

k sorry for slow response but now I have to use my xbox to post here and the browers really bad. my PC just shut off right as I started using that scanning program anatriax linked me to. Now It wont turn on at all. The fans just spin once and the LED lights just blink when I push the power button.

To answer your qustions I am using a gigabyte windforce R9-280x, FX-8350, free upgrade of windows 10 and the power supply box is 600 watt, gigabyte 970a-ud3p motherboard, 8 GB balistics ram. EVerything is running at stock settings.

I have 5 harddrives drives 4 just formated to hold back up folders and videos . My harddrive with windows and a  back up is 1TB seggate 7200 rpm the rest are just 500GB western digital blue 5000 rpm I think. One is failing but I never use it and don't think it can do anything to my PCs performance.

Attention, this is the effect of a virus.

I virus won't cause a non-boot state. Lol.

The machine won't even POST. It has to POST for the problem to be caused by a virus.

Curious but could a power lose cause the problem with windows 10 acting as if it's being loaded for the first time when booted?

I don't care if another part broke down if i can just get new ones.It is that purple screen with loading circle that I am worried about because it has never did that before the problem happened.

1.    Did you try clearing the cmos to reset the bios to default? See your mobo user manual.

2.    To me it looks like your running the 600W power supply near its limits with your installed components. Do
you know anyone who has a spare power supply you could try out.

3.    A CPU that is overheating will shut down almost instantly on start-up,
the computer will only power up for about 3 seconds then shut down.
Only way to make sure is to remove the cpu cooler, clean off the thermal compound and apply new.
Also, before your complete no start, did you remove the cover and visually see if the cpu cooler fan was running?

Other thoughts:
I don't know your experience working inside computers, just take your time and be careful using screwdrivers that they don't slip and damage the mobo or other components.

If you want a good power supply buy a Seasonic, personally I don't buy anything Corsair makes, can you say Sony? A 750W would be a good choise.

I've been repairing computer for quite awhile, it's always the component you would last suspect to be the problem.
