merryMalfunctioning Posted October 17, 2015 Posted October 17, 2015 Wet and Cold sounds like a really great mod, but I keep hearing that it is absolutely brutal in terms of script loading, and just slows everything down to a crawl. Is it true? Is the most recent version any better about that? I love Frostfall and other survival themed mods, and it seems like Wet and Cold would really bring that aspect of skyrim to life.
bahamut2119 Posted October 18, 2015 Posted October 18, 2015 Yes its script heavy and has been known at times to cause issues i still use it though i love the blind effects + wet footsteps + auto equipped hoods/cloaks
Setekh Posted October 18, 2015 Posted October 18, 2015 I use it but I have a lot of the stuff disabled. All I have turned on is the 1st and 3rd person breaths, the blizzard blind and the sounds/NPC equipping. Things like the snow effect on clothes and the soggy feet/ heat detection are the most demanding on the scripting engine and I don't think they add much in terms of gameplay anyway so turn 'em all off. No stability issues here with that setup.
merryMalfunctioning Posted October 19, 2015 Author Posted October 19, 2015 The hoods are really neat, that's my favourite part thus far.
Anneurism Posted October 20, 2015 Posted October 20, 2015 2.0+ has seen isoku streamlining and removing a few features (heat detection and steam iirc), he also changed how his scripts work, with it no longer using a cloak spell, instead using quests. There is a noticeable performance improvement from older versions due to the changes isoku made before going on his break from modding. Until Frostfall 3.0 and Last Seed see a release I'm sticking to Wet & Cold and Campfires myself. Wet & Cold compliments Frostfall really well and isoku has his drip and frost effects disable when Wet & Cold detects Frostfall. Whether Wet & Cold is worth it just depends on how fast your system can process papyrus scripts and what mods you feel are more important to what you consider an enjoyable playing experience. Cheers.
Kain82 Posted October 20, 2015 Posted October 20, 2015 This is all news to me. I've been using Wet & Cold for the past year across two computers, and never had any problems.
arbiter Posted October 20, 2015 Posted October 20, 2015 With a bunch of script mods and graphic enhancements like tons of grass and textures and xtra trees and enbs and open cities skyrim it helps to put a damper on fps. Like, GTX 980 and still 20 fps outdoors before overclock (a lot of that is probably open cities where I am right now). For instance, the only game overclocking really helps with is modded skyrim: And that dude's indoors. Went and bought a liquid CPU cooler today. But being script heavy is only part of it. How fast is your CPU?
Guest Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 I've been using Wet and Cold since the beginning and have had zero issues myself. I have all the settings on but heat detection, also have it running with a lot of texture mods and what not. It's a great mod, feels like something that should have been in the game already : p
