Im about to start a new game but i want to use a perk overhaul mod. And honestly im getting really tiered of having to re-patch perma every time i remove a mod. So im looking for something that is similar to perma but without the hassle of proc patch.

I know i have many choices to pick from and im fine with that. What i want to know is what perk mod do you use and why?

Ill start,

I mainly used perma for most of my time playing skyrim. Not only (in my opinion) is it one of the best perk mods iv ever used but it was almost essential for me to play skyrim. The biggest downsides is the proc patcher. If your running a large load order the patching times can range from 15-30 minutes.

With almost 300 mods, the perma patcher takes 30+ minutes for me... yep it sucks.

I never heard of Ordinator before now though. Going to try it out, it looks interesting!

I've been using PerMa for a long time but recently decided to switch to Ordinator. When you're doing new armor conversions and adding new weapons+armor+etc having to run the patcher every time just to get things balanced is a tad prohibitive, and Ordinator seemed like a nice compromise. May give it a few tweaks of my own along the way, but...

As an aside, I used to really really love SPERG. Kinda wish there was a way to update it or borrow features from it because it had some great ideas.

A long time ago, I used ACE, and then ASIS. Then for an extended period of time I used SkyRe and swore by it. Then used PerMa from release for months, and then switched to Ordinator.

Now? None.

I went full circle, and don't use any of them and prefer no overhauls whatsoever.

Every last one of them I used, while adding some cool and fun features, ended up inadvertently deemphasizing large portions of the game. To the point where everything in the game felt as if it had no weight to it(including what was overhauled), because all of the overhauls I used destroyed the game's ebb and flow.

I never tried Requiem.

Ordinator. I like a lot of what it does anyway, it makes character building fun rather than an autopilot min/max affair,  it's lightweight, low maintenance, has a similar approach to Perkus in many respects and naturally has great synergy with Apocalypse and Wintermyst. EnaiSiaion is also unusually proactive in maintaining his mods. Nothing is absolute with that guy, if you have a good idea and sell it to him well enough, he'll act on it.

Unless Kryptopyr is about to reveal another of her monster projects I can't imagine I'll use another perk overhaul this late in the game.

I used to love ACE back in the day, because it tweaked the vanilla game without just changing everything. Eventually I graduated to SPERG because I really loved so many of the ideas it had, where perks from one tree could still affect other abilities, allowing me to create synergies. Unfortunately it also has some weird imbalances and 'must have' perks such as those that give you super regeneration, then puts them low on the tree so I end up going into those even if it's not my specialty.

I never liked the way SkyRe tried to change so much, but when Perkus Maximus came along I gave it a try and have really liked it. Like others have said, I hate how long the patcher takes, but one thing it has done is kept me from changing mods so often when I'm mid play-through, a problem I've had forever and the cause of so many corrupt saves. I don't know if that benefit is worth the trouble the long patcher causes, but it's something. ^_^

I have briefly tried Ordinator, but not really enough to make a judgement one way or the other. It's been getting so many updates that I feel like I'd be running a pretty unstable mod, so I've been waiting for it to settle down a bit more. I do like some of the ideas it brings forth, and using it would bring me down to 1 .ESP file from the 13 or so PerMa is taking up, which alone sound like a pretty great reason to try it!

I've tried a bunch over the years, I just use some of the standalone perk mods that only effect one particular skill tree or entire skill set (like Mighty Magick for the magic skills) now. The big packages do a lot of cool stuff, but I find it's easier for me to edit the individual perk mods to be tailored to exactly what I want...and make them all compatible with other mods I want to run. Makes my load order bigger, but it gives me the illusion of having more control over what I put in my game...I don't always love 100% of what another author has created, especially in some of the bigger 'overhaul everything' type mods.

If I had to pick one from the list above, I'd probably go with Perkus Maximus. I had a lot of fun using that one last year.
