mygfishung Posted August 29, 2015 Posted August 29, 2015 With my recent installment of skyrim I've been having an issue with custom follower textures where it just won't load the texture of the follower. They will be glowing blue. Sometimes just their face, sometimes just their body, sometimes both. I've tried everything, even a clean install and nothing seems to work. When I'm able to manually overwrite the skin textures with my own, they work fine but if the follower is only an ESP then I can't do that.
WraithSlayer Posted August 29, 2015 Posted August 29, 2015 If the follower is just an ESP, then they can't be using custom textures in the first place, ESP doesn't store that kind of data. I assume you meant "if the follower is only an ESP+BSA", in which case, you can always unpack the BSA into loose files, then do the same thing you were doing for the other mods that you could fix.

Yes, that is right. I'm really trying to figure out what is causing the issue in the first place. I didn't have this issue before reinstall. I've also noticed it happens with CBBE textures and not when I install UNP textures.
chajapa Posted August 29, 2015 Posted August 29, 2015 Hope I'm not derailing the OP's topic, but I'm working on followers and textures as well. The esp DOES seem to have texture information in it. This is not in regard to an esp-only follower, but one with their own meshes and textures. If I give them new body, hands, feet meshes (from BodySlide and using a UUNP Special mesh generated), the texture paths in those generated nifs point to the default texture location for all NPCs. But in the esp I see there's a texture path pointing to the follower's custom texture folder. At that point they still seem to use the custom textures, even though the meshes are looking at the default NPC textures, the esp seems to override that and make them load the custom follower textures. SO... I use TES5Edit to change the texture path in the esp to point to the default textures. Now the nifs and the esp agree on where to get the textures and the follower does indeed use the default textures. Sometimes takes a bit of detective work so that I make sure to get body, hands, feet, and HEAD all using the same texture set, but I've done 2 followers so far and this seems to be working. If I want follower-A and follower-B to use the default body meshes, textures, and skeleton, then I edit the esp to make that happen. Is this a valid approach or am I screwing things up? If the follower is just an ESP, then they can't be using custom textures in the first place, ESP doesn't store that kind of data. I've also noticed it happens with CBBE textures and not when I install UNP textures. If it does it on CBBE textures and not on UNP textures, then I would tend to look at where the CBBE textures are being installed and if they're being installed correctly. Generally speaking, when you install a texture set to the default location, it should not matter if it's CBBE or UNP as far as the folder structure. The folder structure for either should be the same as default. So if you start out with UNP and then install CBBE... it SHOULD completely overwrite the UNP textures. And if you then change back to UNP, then those textures should COMPLETELY overwrite the CBBE textures.
dragonvale Posted August 30, 2015 Posted August 30, 2015 If the follower mod comes also in a "loose files" version, use that and if the problem persists change follower textures with another textures mod made for the body type that he/she have. If there isn't a "loose files" version, you can try with .bsa unpacker.
