DupaStupid Posted August 16, 2015 Posted August 16, 2015 So i'm finding im not happy with my sli gtx 660sc 2gb cards. Besides playing current and near future games at 1080p. Which single card setup should I buy? Assuming skyrim + enb stuff + 300+ mods. GTX 970 3.5GB vram or AMD 390 8gb vram?
Guest Posted August 16, 2015 Posted August 16, 2015 It depends on how much money do you want to spend. Skyrim runs with ENB at 60FPS (vanilla) with just a GTX 960 2GB. Of course a 4GB oit is pretty much the same price, so get a 4GB. The 970 3.5 is for sure better. But will not be used in recent games. No idea about the AMD ones.
Anatriax Posted August 16, 2015 Posted August 16, 2015 I'm personally an NVidia fan. However:http://www.pcgamer.com/why-nvidias-gtx-970-slows-down-using-more-than-35gb-vram/Spend the extra money and get a GTX 980.
Seener Posted August 16, 2015 Posted August 16, 2015 Spend a little bit more and get a 980. You wont regret it.
Guest Posted August 16, 2015 Posted August 16, 2015 I bought the card linked below a few months ago. It runs skyrim really well with lots of texture mods and seasons enb. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127850&cm_re=gtx_970-_-14-127-850-_-Product

And I think the extra VRAM from the 390 would help a lot with the oculus rift. BUT then I think of 2016's line up and idk what to do lol. This new tech that is suppose to be in the 2016 Nvidia cards https://developer.nvidia.com/deep-learning idk what kind of a difference that'll make for gaming?

The 970 is the only card that has this problem reported. 960, 980, and 980ti do not have this problem.

Guest Posted August 17, 2015 Posted August 17, 2015 If you can afford it, then 980 is not bad. 960 can be got with 4GB for about $ 300.

Spectre_Ops Posted August 17, 2015 Posted August 17, 2015 I'm running two 660ti cards in SLI, (not sure if Skyrim can use the SLI feature) and I'm running between 50 and 60 fps depending on the enb. More intense enb's I drop to about 30. The 660ti however is faster than the 660. You can get a GTX960 for a decent price, or if you got the cash, the 980ti or the AMD R9 390X which retail for around $500-$600
DupaStupid Posted August 17, 2015 Author Posted August 17, 2015 Let me ask it this way then. So are you saying a single gtx 960 4gb can get me a solid 60fps in skyrim with the enb stuff, civil war mods, bigger battles, ect? And whats the chances of the gtx 960 being able to max out fallout 4 with a few mods?

I run that guide, full texture mods, ENB, all that... on the rig listed in the beginning of the guide. I roughly get 50-55 FPS constant. Now that's A LOT OF CRAP running constantly. Fallout 4? pft. Bring it.

DupaStupid Posted August 17, 2015 Author Posted August 17, 2015 I'd pick a 970 or it's amd equivalent. Got to luv Amazon. It'll be here tomorrow. Kind of geeked to see how it does on skyrim.
MilkyTabboo Posted August 17, 2015 Posted August 17, 2015 I'm also picking a card for Skyrim as well but between the 390x and the 980 and the r9 Fury. Which will give me the best performance? I'm currently maxing out my 280x and I want to continue running skyrim at 1440p. http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/53294/? Using this enb + a Shit ton of 4K environment textures. Which will suit me best? Also curious to find out the actual difference in performance between AMD and Nvidia since Boris doesn't develop and test on AMD cards...

DupaStupid Posted August 17, 2015 Author Posted August 17, 2015 The 970 I hope will hold out until 2016 cards.
Anatriax Posted August 17, 2015 Posted August 17, 2015 The 970 I hope will hold out until 2016 cards. Lol. I don't think you need to hope. I'm fairly confident my 960 will hold out until next year. I just picked up Witcher 3 and I'm running 60fps on max settings. (EVGA GTX 960 SSC 4gb)

I personally DON'T like at all 970. 980s are good but way too much expensive compared to what games require nowadays.

And all new games run flawless with this GPU.
ONIXer Posted August 17, 2015 Posted August 17, 2015 Interesting how some ppl run skyrim 60fps with enb etc on gtx 960, personally i run skyrim on my 780 ti OC and im having 35 - 40fps outdoors with somber Jyggalag ENB, 2/4k textures and grass density 50 at 2560x1080 resolution. Talking about buying new card, if i couldnt wait i would take 960 - 970 and after upgrade to Nvidia pascal flagship (around 1 year from now).
Spectre_Ops Posted August 17, 2015 Posted August 17, 2015 If you have the patience, I would wait until the 980ti drops in price. Plus, what type of processor are you running?
DupaStupid Posted August 17, 2015 Author Posted August 17, 2015 3570k @4.4ghz Can I still run one of my gtx660 as a physics card?
