Both high level of detail and regular Mai nude models have been updated.

 

High Level of Detail Mai Updates:

- Fixed the shadow issue for nVidia users

- Addressed some weird shading issues that can occasionally be observed in her underboob area.

 

Since I normally leave my game's boob motion setting on DOA, a few users have reported some weird shading issues under her breasts.   The problem is hard to notice on natural and DOA breast motion modes, but can be quite apparent on OMG mode, so I tried to plug her holes down there as well :bush:

 

After an extremely epic struggle due to the fact that there are very many overlapping vertices and the model looks quite alright in the editor without pulling things apart, I've managed to make the situation a little better.

 

It's by no means perfect, but under normal circumstances, it's hardly noticeable as shown below:

As a matter of fact, the underboob shading for regular mode (and for all nude mods) does not appear natural either:

It's due to the fact that the breasts normal vectors are supposed to be in the shade (so its dark), but when stretching and bouncing, the shading looks messed up.   I think it's one of those areas where to which there's really no perfect solution.

 

In any case, since there are still  a few "issues" with the high level of detail model, I've decided to update the regular model as well to adopt the 3D bush.   If you prefer a model without issues, I recommend the regular model

I actually have prepared an updated Mai Fun Pack to include a lot of new bug fixes and addition to the existing pack.  Wonder if people still want it?  I know for sure I've looked at her boobs long enough this past week, but the good thing is I can never get tired of them

 

A bit of preview:

 

Added Leifang DLC004 breakable outfit to the collection, complete with fans

 

Fixed the clipping and actually updated the base model (PAI's swimsuit).  Now with fans as well

I might add a few more before releasing it.   Transforming to Mai is a royal pain in the ass with the infinite loading problem.  A lot of manual tweaks are needed for the model to load in game.

MAI FUN PACK

 

A few days ago, I hastily put together a pack for Mai as part of my transformer tool testing.  I realized it was not really up to the usual standard I try to uphold, so I went back to pretty much redo the whole pack from scratch.

 

This is still a pack done primarily with my transformer tool with a few manual tweaks here and there.  The biggest issue with Mai is her rather restrictive TMCL file size.  I found that anything less than ~7200 kb seems to work well, and anything above that requires a lot of manual tweaking to choose what texture to resize and so on.   Quite a few outfits in this pack fall into the over 7200 kb category, so I've had to reduce the texture size which in turn might affect the visual fidelity of some models, but that's a small sacrifice to make to see my childhood playmate in her naked glory

Did some experiment while trying to fine-tune the smoothing algorithm of my transformer.  If I get more time to work on it I might release a new update soon.  I tried to make it so that the normal smoothing mode creates more faithful breast transformation for characters with large breasts such as Mai and Honoka with a small degree of success so far.  I've also adjusted some parameters around adaptive smoothing mode to hopefully reduce the clipping issues.

Breasts appear closer together as what Mai would normally sport. Although realistically they should probably be more far apart (and sag a little) for her size, so V3.3 result is actually more realistic, lol.

Testing the new regular smoothing mode.  If all goes well I think I might just replace the existing Adaptive smoothing mode with this.  It's pretty faithful transformation so far.   The biggest issue with the current transformer is that transforming to and from any ladies except Marie works pretty okay, but when going to/from Marie, it is a bit of a gamble.  This has been an issue since forever, but I've just been way to lazy to actually do anything about it, lol.  I aim to (hopefully) address that issue while actually improving the overall transformation quality.

 

Here are some test shots - all done at regular smoothing 30SF.  The skin tight bikini with strings would give the tool most issues, but now it's not so bad anymore.

A lot more testing is needed.  This stuff is some serious time sink - too many costumes to test and too many numbers to tune, but after all this, there will still only be one SF number to determine the "Sample size."  Right now I am trying to find a way to give all three smoothing modes (regular, adaptive and this new one) for people to try out, but the tool window is getting a little crammed lol.

 

One interesting thing I found today while testing is that the tangent vectors look messed up on Mai official COS 001.

My Timmy's TMC/OBJ Converter & Post Processing Tool (that most people don't bother with, lol) can be used to quickly fix this.

 

 

Remember tangent vectors are what the blue map utilizes and it is important to create realistic looking materials/surfaces with "fake bumps" on otherwise flat surfaces.  For more information on what the blue texture does and the different tangent calculation mods (Recompute Tangent(RH) and Recompute Tangent(RM), please see this post

Very happy that Mai got you out of semi-retirement. She certainly piqued my interest again after being away from the game for a while.

 

Having fun with it again.

 

 

 

I'm having small 2 issues:

-Every transformation I've done ends up having her default hair going through both her head and body, it's mostly only noticeable in character select. The ones in your pre-made fun pack don't have this problem, so I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. Transfer bone/collision boxes are checked when running the transformer.

-If the source costume has a skirt, the animation looks a bit 'puffy' like there's a bustle underneath (more so than her official clothes). Basically it doesn't lay on her body, but is kind of above it. BTW I also tested the ABC transformer, and the skirt problem is the same but much worse, so I'm guessing there's something unusual about Mai around the hips relative to the other girls. Though her hips are also the best in the game.

 

 

These are very minor things, but just wanted to give a report on my experiences with the latest version (3.3). Everything else about the tool is going great.

In regards to Mais collision, some of the hair through body clipping and crazy skirt physics can occasionally be fixed by not using automatic collision transfer.  Give it a whirl and see if that works. Mai has a very special collision structure that causes these whacky problems. I have had to make some manual adjustments to Mai Valentine's apron to make it look right. It's one example where turning off collision transfer does nothing. Most of the outfits in my Mai fun pack however are fine as is.
