Alright, so after browsing around and being led to skyrimnexus, trying to register to check out the file to only recover existing account that I forgot which in turn made me guess that my loverslab acc/pw is probably the same. Thus I am here right now with the opportunity to ask a question.

I just got Skyrim, and for starters, what "basic" mod should I get? So many terms flying around I don't know what is what and where to start.

Thanks.

I went on a mod installing spree a few weeks ago, and this thread helped me find some nice mods. Take note that some mods are not compatible with one another if they change the same thing (ex. Coverwomen vs navetsea's Female Face Retexture; both are face texture replacers). Therefore, you have to choose one.

First, I suggest reading this guide in order to optimize your game settings.

Second, you might want to get a body replacer for females and even males. The two most popular ones for females are Dimonized UNP and Caliente's CBBE. There are also other body replacers for more distinct tastes, located here and on the Nexus. Vanilla armor may not look right on new female bodies, so you might want to get vanilla armor replacers. These may look different depending on which body it was designed for. Also, custom female armor may be designed for only one body type (ex. Gloria Armor is for UNP only). Browse the custom armor available and decide which body replacer to use.

Most male body replacers fit in all vanilla and custom male armor, so choose whichever you like. You'll see that females have much more variety. :P

STEP is a great guide for installing a bunch of HD textures in order. You should probably wait until STEP is released for patch 1.5, though.

An ENBSeries preset can make your game look totally different, like something out of the movies or claymation. My own preference is Superb ENB-RL. Jasmin ENB is similar and also good. ENB Hollywood simulates movies. Ofc there is the original ENBSeries by Boris. You can only use one preset at a time. ENB can be an FPS killer, though, depending on your rig and game settings. If ENB is too strenuous for your rig, you can use other graphic mods like RCRN.

There are a plethora of other mods as well, including new weapons, more/better enemies, unlocked level cap, etc. Besides the Nexus, LoversLab is a great resource for mods as well. Be aware that there are a lot more adult-oriented mods here; all the better if they tickle your fancy. :D

Thanks for the recommendations guys. I'll try it all out.

I just installed CBBEv3 and CHSBHC. I need a face replace mod now, any recommendations?

My pleasure. Navetsea's Female Face Skin is what I use, although it should be used with his skin replacer for it to look best. I'm pretty sure they are both compatible with CHSBHC as well.

Thank you. Which file should I download though?

Oh yeah cinemaparadiso, The Unofficial Patch doesn't work for me for some reason, when I start Skyrim after the logo it just crashes.

You can find the face replacer in the File tab and under Main Files. It's called "Female Face skin v1_8 Fuller Lips v2". Then under the Optional Files, you can find a darker tint for lips, more makeup with fuller lips, a "more character" patch, etc. Optional files typically overwrite the main files. :)

If you don't like the fuller lips, you can get navetsea's previous revision, Female Face Retexture.

You can install the body skin replacer before or after the face. First, download the one at the very top of the Main Files. Then under Optional Files, you can choose a hairy version, a muscular version, different pubic hair, etc.
