Guest Vendayn Posted July 31, 2015 Posted July 31, 2015 I was hoping to do it through TES5Edit, and not the creation kit. I find TES5Edit quite a bit easier to use, but if I have to use the CK for it guess that is what I have to do. But, I want to take the race I use (monli) and able to start as a Thalmor agent, which is otherwise only selectable by I think Khajiit and Altmer. I want Monli as a choice however to also be a Thalmor agent. Anyone know what I need to change/add for that to happen?
Anatriax Posted July 31, 2015 Posted July 31, 2015 Should be able to change it in CK; however, it might be scripted. I'm not entirely sure of the structure for ASLAL as I've never actually opened it in CK to look at the structure. Theoretically: You'll probably have to make the .esp that adds the race into an .esm (unless it's already labeled as a master)Opening both ASLAL and the mod that adds the race together in CK (along with all dependancies) should give you access to everything you need. Find the information that defines what races have access to that particular option. It may be in quests, it may be in a script. Again, I'm not entirely sure about the structure of ASLAL.Add the chosen race to the parameters for that particular option. SAVE your work as a SEPARATE .esp file ( example: "ASLAL Monli Patch" )Load and test.
Guest Vendayn Posted July 31, 2015 Posted July 31, 2015 Well, I found the quest IDs in CK (which was annoying to install. Because it wasn't in my Skyrim folder, and steam wouldn't let me install it and uninstalling it completely wipes out the entire Skyrim directory. Complete fail. At least I had a backup of my skyrim folder lol)I removed the race requirement for it (and I removed the dark elf one to start in morrowind). I'll have to go in-game and test it to see how it works.
Anatriax Posted July 31, 2015 Posted July 31, 2015 Hopefully you made it as a patch .esp and didn't make actual changes to ASLAL
Guest Vendayn Posted July 31, 2015 Posted July 31, 2015 Well I did see your recommendation to make it a patch...yes...<.< <.<...>.> >.> okay you got me...no I was kinda too lazy rofl. I'll just replace the esp if it doesn't work or is buggy and do it again. Not too big of a deal. (edit: Seems to work fine. And saves me needing an extra .esp in my mod list.)
Anatriax Posted July 31, 2015 Posted July 31, 2015 Sweet! Think you could send the .esp my way in a PM? With the guides I'm working on, I don't really have a lot of time to edit mods as of late :/
meme supreme Posted August 1, 2015 Posted August 1, 2015 A bit late, but instead of using CK, you could maybe use TES5Edit? It's meant to be used for quick little snip fixes like those, helps avoid the CK's clumsy nature.
Terakhan Posted August 1, 2015 Posted August 1, 2015 You are actually putting far too much work into it, provided you are not against using console. If you want the Thalmor start, create your character as a High Elf, talk to the statue and choose your start, then console up the racemenu and change your race to what you want. I've done this to start as a norn in the orc stronghold start (lets be honest, them calling you outlander if you are an orc that lives there makes no sense, after all). The one bug you might catch with it is starting spells sticking from your high elf choice. If it does come up, start as your intended race, racemenu to high elf, statue, then racemenu back to choice.

I think the point of the fix was to make a permanent one, so that he doesn't have to do this every time he makes a new character.
Guest Vendayn Posted August 1, 2015 Posted August 1, 2015 TES5Edit I couldn't figure out with it, CK was easier. A lot of the edits in alt start.esp are a bit weird and not the most organized to me lol. CK has the option to see "use info" so I can easily find the correct entry. But heck, most of the start quests aren't even named properly in the .esp and named something unrelated lol. Not how I'd have done it, but whatever lol. Starting as a High Elf each time I start a new game (which outside of my vanilla experience where I beat the main story on one character, I tend to mod and start again lol). That would take more work to do in the long run. Plus, when I share my compilation and my save file...if my friend and anyone else I give the mod to (there are a few compilations around on the net for Skyrim, but I won't be posting it here lol, mods here don't like compilations ), starts up...I don't want them having to jump through hoops and do a bunch of in-game console stuff if they want to start in Solstheim. That would be more annoying for them than it is for me having to open console and do all that shit lol.
Arken Red Posted August 2, 2015 Posted August 2, 2015 It's actually quite easy, open up the ck(not sure it'll work with TES5edit) go to your race, and change the actorproxy(insertracenamehere) from whatever it is to actorproxyhighelf. right click in the keywords section on your race's ck page, click add then type actorproxy, select your highelf one, then remove the actorproxy that the mod author gave it. I changed my Ashen Race to nord instead of breton
