ENB Help!

Recently decided to install an ENB and see if it was worth the frame-rate drop for my game to look nicer. I grabbed Poupouri's Morning Star ENB (since I wanted my characters in particular to look good) and now, after following all the steps to install, my game crashes after I click "Continue". I already changed the stuff in SkyrimPrefs.ini, so how do I fix this?

Phase 3 of my guide will help you properly install and setup ENB

However, a CTD at that point? It's unlikely that ENB is your culprit.

Does it happen immediately after you click continue? Later during the loading process? or after it's loaded into the game?

Yeah, right after I click "Continue" (and then yes) it crashes. I haven't done anything else to the game recently that I can think of though, so I'm not sure what else would be causing it to CTD. Could I have a link to this guide?

Your save is missing masters. Open Wrye Bash, go to the saves tab, click on the save you're trying to load, and look at the masters on the right side. Any red checkmarks are missing.

That right there might be problem in itself. What the heck is Wrye Bash?

Could be that you're running out of VRAM, then. What GPU are you using? Did you go through phase 3 of my guide to set up enblocal.ini properly?

In main menu, type "~" to bring on the console, then type "coc elsweyr."

That will bring you to the holding cell with a default male character.

From there, load your save and see if it succeeds.

If it still crash, try turning off ENB, and redo the whole process.

Goodluck ;)

I will try this out, thanks!

My graphics card is an Nvidia GTX 970M, and no I didn't use your guide. Could you link it?

did you possibly hav previous ENB installed?  Perhaps you didn't delete all the files from the previous ENB & when you miss a few files (depending on the file)it can crash.

I already have 3 times :) and now a 4th.

It's in my signature.

Sorry 'bout that, now I feel really dumb >.<

Got into the little default room, couldn't load the save without it crashing. So now I need to "turn off" the enb.... Is there any easier way to do that then deleting all the files from the game folder?

Now that you mention it, it's entirely possible I tried to install an ENB in the past and failed for some reason, though I don't recall doing so. Tell me there's a faster/more efficient way of finding and deleting old files (if they're there) then looking for them one by one?

From the way you're describing your issue, though? I don't think it's anything to do with ENB. I think your save has become corrupt. Try loading an older save.

If you DO want to test the theory of old ENB files, the best and most accurate way to do this is to entirely delete your Skyrim folder (minus the DATA folder. VERY important that you leave that there), then going into steam and verifying your file integrity. It will redownload what it needs, then reinstall SKSE

Just tried removing the d3d9.dll file from the skyrim folder, and the game loaded up just fine. And if a save is corrupt, I'm guessing I can't repair that in any way can I?

Edit: Just to be clear, I loaded my most current save (the one that was having problems) without any issues after removing the file.

Then ENB is, infact, your problem.

Try switching to another ENB preset (I suggest Seasons of Skyrim for overall beauty of both characters and environment)

Make sure to download .262 ENB Binary, or Seasons won't function properly.

By any chance do you remember the ENB you had previous installed? is what I do is take my old ENB & reinstall over ONLY the files in the main skyrim folder & say yes to overwrite all of then Then the files you just installed will all be highlighted in Blue right click on the files & click Delete but as for finding the lone file.

Here is my ENB files I marked the ones to be deleted. Delete those first then reinstall the new enb & check to see if it still crashes.

I am running "Serenity ENB"

970m you say? It's probably dual graphics problem. ENBs d3d9.dll does not work very well in such configurations. It tries to start your poor Skyrim on your intergrated graphics card. There's a fix for this somewhere on Nexus... Yep, Nvidia Optimus Fix it is.

R u using MO?

Alright, update time. I first went through and deleted as many of those files as I could find, then went ahead and installed the Seasons of Skyrim, and it works! Hallelujah, you guys are all life-savers! Thanks so much for all the help. I kinda wish I could have gotten the other one (morning star) to work properly but hey, this one looks pretty damn good too. One last tiny thing: is there any way to remedy the very slight fps drop outdoors or is that just due to the open-world nature of the game and having too many things to load?

Turn down the view distance just a bit. If you're using TES5LODGen or DynDOLOD then view distance doesn't matter much, except for what the system loads in your cells.

Also try getting the optimized .ini files for ENB from my guide in phase 2. That might help some, also.

Done and done. Fixed the issue, thanks again. Man, this community is awesome. But I thought this was the internet.....where am I?
