How to use converted armors?

Really stupid question time! So I'm using the CBBE body because that was what I found first, and I've found many different armors for other body types that I liked. I looked them up, found out they had been converted, and downloaded the files that were attached. However, I can never find the armor in-game after installing said files. So my question is, how EXACTLY do I use a converted armor in-game?

P.S. I know you need the original mod sometimes, but when I get it the game either crashes or the armor/body still looks weird.

you mean you found other armors for other bodytypes, but they were also converted to CBBE ?

Yeah ok, so I assume to read the readmes for those.

Did you try to use Archive Invalidation ?

Well you can reset it with the nexus mod manager. You need to do that everytime you put a new mod with new textures and meshes.

Yeah, I found armors for other body types (UNP mostly) and then searched around these forums for a while, until finding someone who said "I've converted ____ armor to CBBE bodyslide". They have a file attached, I download it and extract it to the skyrim data folder, and then start the game, but the armor doesn't show up in-game. I've never reset NMM before either as far as I know, so what do you mean by that.

Also, I'm not sure what you mean by Archive Invalidation. What is that?

Ah ok. Could you give me the links for those mods ?

Oh ok, well you fire up NMM, select skyrim and you should see a image with a screw driver and wrench on the top. It is called "tools".

You click on that and then you get a list of things like, Reset UI, Restore Backup and stuff. On the bottom of that list, there is "Reset Archive Invalidation".

You click that and then a message pops up if you want to reset it. Press yes.

Then start skyrim and see if your armors are there.

Make sure the esp for the armour is active, you would be surprised the number of times, that I have forgotten to do this, though from what I remember nmm does it on install of the mod.

If you have the armour pieces in your inventory, but they do not show when you equip, it could be you need to install the original mod and then the conversion, the conversion may well be just a mesh replacer and does not contain textures. check to see if the download you have for the armour has both meshes and texture directories in it.  If it does not then go download the original mod

If you simply can not find the armour itself, then there are a number of ways people add their armour into the game;

1 A chest somewhere in game, this is usually shown in the original mod page.

2 You craft it, note depending on the author this may still require the appropriate smithing skill, eg, elven, dwarven etc.

3 A script may add it to the character the first time the game is loaded after the mod is activated.

4 Console commands, details of how to get them are again usually shown on the mods homepage.

Ironically enough I'm finding it hard to think of specific examples. There's an armor pack I've been looking for recently (link below) that I have yet to get working. Other armors that I experienced a bit of trouble with include Dark Disciple armor, Minou's Aradia Leather Thief Armor, and the Vampire Cuirass with chains. I don't have links to those on hand, but I can try to find them again if you want.

Other armors work in game but cause my character's body to look weird, especially the nipples and hips. Some of these include the Ribbon armor and Nyotengu catsuit. I assume these issues are cause by the fact that they are UNP armors and I didn't install the conversion files correctly somehow.

Ah yes ok. Thank you, no need.

Well the mod you sent me, it says it was made for CHSBHC. Not CBBE. That might be the problem.

You would have to install the CHSBHC body, before you use those armors.

Alternatively you could install Bodyslide. There are alot of armors converted to that.

Plus you can make the body the way you like with bodyslide.

Although I don't know if there are all the armors you want for that. Would have to look around on the internet.

Yeah, I realize that it's an armor that's intended for use with the CHSBHC body type. However, I have been searching for a converted version of it that I can use with the CBBE body type. So far I've located some of the armors' files for Bodyslide (since I DO use that) and, using those files, I've been able to use the armor in-game without any issues. There are still many armors in the pack that I lack files for, however.

I guess my question is, in the end: Does having an armor for any body type + the armor's files in bodyslide make it compatible with CBBE, or am I missing something?

You should actually first deinstall the orignial armor mod, that is not compatible with bodyslide. Then you install the armor files for bodyslide.

Although if the author of the bodyslide armor mod, puts the original as a requirement for it, then install both.

Well I did it like that and have no problems with armors what so ever.

Ah, ok. That may be the issue with some of them, as I would install both the original and the new files with all of them. I have noticed, however, that some of the "converted" files are just bodyslide data, which I assume means that I need the original files in order to actually add the armor into the game.

"However, I can never find the armor in-game after installing said files."

Install the original armor, textures, and activate the esp.

Overwrite with the conversion.

If a bodyslide conversion, run bodyslide, change or zap whatever you want, click Build. This should overwrite the original meshes with the "bodyslided" ones.

I just counted, and I have six different versions of Bodyslide in my Caliente Tools folder.

As Bodyslide evolved, so did the CBBE body, body mesh weighting, and skeletons it used. A conversion created for, say CB++ version of bodyslide, is going to look very different in game with the current body/skeleton.

Each armor/outfit has its own bones list in the mesh. It also includes info that Nifscope calls BSDismemberSkinInstance. Some newer armors use body slots that the original skeletons don't use. So for example, if a necklace uses a new neck slot is put in-game on a body that just uses slot 32 for all body parts, the necklace won't appear.

Nipples and hips looking weird is usually because: UNP and CBBE textures are wrapped around the meshes differently (I'm simplifying). If, say, an armor converted to UUNP bodyslide is worn by a CBBE player, it will put UNP textures on the CBBE body, and there will be a weird textures gaps at the hips, and the nipples will be painted in the wrong place.

If by weird you mean convex breasts or breasts shooting out to infinity (and beyond!) that is a skeleton mismatch.

If by "can't find" you mean actually can't locate even using the console commands, did you know you can page up, down through the search results? Or just download AddItemMenu from Nexus (don't know if its also here).

Yeah, I had figured out that the whole hip clipping/weird nipples thing was caused by UNP textures attempting to work on a CBBE body. I guess that I just ended up installing something incorrectly or forgetting to use Bodyslide to alter the armor before using it in game. And by "can't find" I do literally mean that I can't see it, even in the console. My computer doesn't have page up/down keys because it's a laptop (and I'm a skrub without a separate keyboard), so I can't scroll up to see if it's actually there. Is there any other way to see the rest of the console?

Try the mod in my last sentence. Uses an MCM menu that lists all active esps. Click on the esp, lists the added items by the esp, click an item and it's in your inventory. Bypasses the console entirely.
