tenzan Posted July 23, 2015 Posted July 23, 2015 It seems my character's body/face specularity broke in the crossfire as I was trying to fix my HDT issues. There're still f_1_s textures in the correct locations. The SOS specularity still works like normal in-game. The male spec is also broken. The guy appears grey/black/normal and changes between them as if the shader's goofy. And my char's face using facelight. The left one is correct, the right one is currently. (The shine down the middle of her face should always be there with facelight on.) This could be several things from what I can remember.. but the most prominent I was probably doing was using bodyslide to replace HDT body versions (female only, only male stuff that are installed from default SOS mods). I use only UUNP/UNP/7B type stuff. I went through the different HDT body types again to make sure that wasn't the issue. Reinstalled XPMS latest version, HDT, HDT SMP. Also tested a fresh skyrimprefs. I don't use any ENB as I could never really get it to work right. I'd really appreciate any ideas.
Tepi Posted July 23, 2015 Posted July 23, 2015 If you generated new bodies and overwrote previous ones, glossiness values are probably different in your new .nifs. Quickly searched google for guide and this link came up: http://eiheispot1.blog.fc2.com/blog-entry-54.html Yes, its in jap or something but you can kinda figure it out from pictures.
tenzan Posted July 23, 2015 Author Posted July 23, 2015 Thanks for the response. Though it seems no matter how much glossy effect I add, it remains matte under direct lighting. My character's face, hands, feet, everything except SOS is matte.
Kaz Aanh Posted July 23, 2015 Posted July 23, 2015 Do you use bodychanger or other in-game body changing tool? Because I had the same problem where bodychanger wasn't using a correct femalehead_s , it used a vanilla speculars instead of the ones located in the Textures/Bodychanger/CustomSet1/femalehead_s.dds. Despite changing glossines effetcts and alterting specular maps my character face was still shiny as heck. It must be sth wrong with your _s , if you use MO make sure nothing overwrites it. Check also your body mesh and texture paths.
dobmc Posted July 23, 2015 Posted July 23, 2015 Have you tried fiddling with the specular setting in those inis? Under Skyrim.ini: [LightingShader] fSpecularLODFadeEnd=xfSpecularLODFadeStart=x replace x with in-game distance values.
tenzan Posted July 24, 2015 Author Posted July 24, 2015 I don't understand why this fix works, but I opened my speculars in PS and resaved them on top of the ones in the female folder -- even though they look exactly the same -- and it's back to normal. Thanks for your time guys.
dobmc Posted July 24, 2015 Posted July 24, 2015 Including the issues with male specular? Fucking lol wut.
Killing Joke Posted July 24, 2015 Posted July 24, 2015 At first I was tempted to say that maybe your file was lacking mipmaps and you've generated them when saving it but I don't see how it could have been related to your problem.
tanuhk Posted July 25, 2015 Posted July 25, 2015 I am having this problem as well, and managed to fix all but other male races using this trick. When I look in the folder for male elves, breton, imperial, redguard and orc they only have the .msn file and are missing texture and spec maps. All of them show their textures correctly but just lack the spec map, and I cannot seem to find them anywhere in the textures folder.
