Inky Water...?

So I don't know WHAT setting changes water transparency... but after the new 1.5 patch came out, I can't see underwater at ALL.

I go underwater, and all I can see is a dark inky green color. No water, no riverbed, no rocks, walls... not even my own hands in first person.

Anyone know what setting I can change in my ini prefs that would fix this?

PS: I tried the 'clear water' mod from nexus... but that didn't do anything. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Swiming has become an IMPOSSIBLE chore. I can't tell you how many times I have tried navigating a tunnel or underneath icefloes only to hear the tell-tale sign of suffocation and enevitable drowning. *Gurgle, choke... death*

I had this problem too OP.

In order to fix this i had to uninstall my ENB graphics extender thing and everything went back to normal.

So if you use ENB or something like that, try removing it.

That was exactly it! I had a stray file in my exe directory that didn't get deleted. Turns out it was from ENB and sure enough, POOF everything worked great! Thank you!

For those who'd like to keep ENB...

The problem arises since the latest 1.5 patches, creating the underwater "Greenly blindness" bug when used in conjunction with EBN. The 1.5.x official patch introduces a new transition fx between surface and underwater, which is the "culprit". On march 26, Bethesda have released a new BETA update v1.5.26 "correcting the underwater fx" (that's the only info I could gather, nothing clearly states that both fx are related or the same, I'm just assuming by logic)... However, it's a "beta" patch, which means that you'll have to either register to the beta program via steam, either wait for its official release. Even then, it's not clear if this new beta patch actually resolves the complete blindness EBN users get (I didn't register to the beta program to test this, I find that official patch releases have enough bugs already)...

Short-term Solution : download and activate Green Water Fix by AltheaR, a tiny esp modifying 2 settings (underwater fog and near plane greater than far plane condition). Flawless when using ENB, even though it's a bit blurry for my taste it works!

My GC Radeon HD 6950 settings for Syrim :

  • Force Anti-Aliasing 8x, no morph filter, edge-detect 24x (Skyrim options must be set to no AA) ;
  • Force Anisotropic filtering to 16x, don't use application parameter (Skyrim options must be set to no Anistotropic Filtering) ;
  • Tesselation : use application setting ;
  • Catalyst AI texture quality to highest, no surface format optimization ;
  • Vertical synch always disabled - Set slider to "Performances" (thus leave triple buffering unchecked);
  • AA mode to MSAA - Set slider to "Performances".
