Checking for companions?

Anyone know if there's a simple way to check for companions in a script? Ideally, I'd like to see who is your companion, but I doubt that info is easily available.

Well Vanilla is the VNPCFollowers quest and the variables like bBooneHired and bCassHired and bVeronicaHired etc.. Other companions? Difficult given how many companion systems are out there.

Thanks. That should work fine for my purposes. I wasn't planning on supporting any custom companions besides (maybe) Willow.
