Shadowhawk827 Posted June 5, 2015 Posted June 5, 2015 Dawnguard is driving me crazy. I did a clean install of Skyrim and started a new game. Half of it was so I could play test my mod at higher levels and with Serana around. Anyway... 4 attempted play throughs in a row, I've gotten the bug where Dimhollow Crypt is blocked off despite having "Awakening". Oddly enough, from what I've seen that's supposed to be Stage 10 of the quest. When I use sqv I get Stage 12 though. SetStage doesn't do anything either. A few days of searching and I finally came up with an idea of my own; I skipped to the next part by using coc DLC1DimhollowCrypt02. It almost worked. I even backtracked and killed the baddies all the way back tot he other side of the rock barricade. THEN I go to free Serana... The puzzle was never any trouble. I'm amazed there are cheat guides on that. I get the monolith or whatever you want to call Serana's little coffin to open... And I have the bug where she completely ignores me. I've found a few suggested fixes there, (such as toggling her AI on & off) but none have worked. I even went all the way to the exit of DImhollow and went outside, and she didn't spawn there either. I know Dawnguard is a buggy DLC, but this is insane! FOUR restarts and every time I'm getting the stinking bug?
Voltranis Posted June 5, 2015 Posted June 5, 2015 What Arhon said, if you aren't already, try installing ALL applicable unofficial patches (starting with Skyrim of course) Also, using the console may or may not have bugged things a little for you since the game tends to use triggers that are set off when the player walks over or near them (at least I think so). What this means is that you may want to use a save from before you started the DG questline just in case.
Shadowhawk827 Posted June 6, 2015 Author Posted June 6, 2015 Oh yeah, definitely using the unofficial patches. Random side note; I saw where the starter of another bug thread asked "is there anybody who doesn't?". Prolly everybody here, but when the unofficial patches were finally released on Steam, I saw all kinds of rants about not wanting to install another mod and how they broke the game (ie complainers didn't read load order instructions for the patches, lol). I still can't believe I got this bug 4 attempted starts in a row though. I did read a few sites that suggested that if you didn't let Durak try to recruit you before you went to Fort Dawnguard, that would interfere, but I was careful there the last 3 starts. I also know from past experience that leveling too much between getting the quest from Isran and arriving at Dimhollow will bug it. I was careful there also. The Serana bug, I saw something on one site about tweaking some sort of relationship variables inside the quest, but my Firewall decided to fight with Steam and force a reboot and I couldn't find the page again via google. Keeping in mind what Voltranis said, maybe I'll try the Save Game Script Cleaner and see if that helps. Second side note; You're right about the trigger boxes, Voltranis. The encounters where you see the Draugr fighting the Vampires... The DLC uses trigger boxes to add the draugr when you get close so that the sides don't kill each other. It was interesting hitting the trigger boxes from what's normally the far side and spawning the draugr after the vamps were already dead.
xTrogdorx Posted June 6, 2015 Posted June 6, 2015 Why don't you coc DLC1DimhollowCrypt01? If you got the puzzle to free Serana, have you tried setstage DLC1VQ01 20? Also maybe try resetquest DLC1VQ01, then setstage DLC1VQ01 10, while you're still in ft dawnguard, to see if that fixes the barrier problem and allows the quest to proceed normally
Shadowhawk827 Posted June 6, 2015 Author Posted June 6, 2015 Why don't you coc DLC1DimhollowCrypt01? If you got the puzzle to free Serana, have you tried setstage DLC1VQ01 20? Also maybe try resetquest DLC1VQ01, then setstage DLC1VQ01 10, while you're still in ft dawnguard, to see if that fixes the barrier problem and allows the quest to proceed normally 1) coc DLC1DomhollowCrypt01 still puts me in the empty cave with the walled off doorway. Same thing if I walk there from Dawnstar. 2) SetStage isn't working for some damned reason. Mad at the game, not you for asking. Now here's where something REALLY weird is going on. I tried ResetQuest DLC1VQ01 two or three times. Each time I did, it COMPLETED the quest instead of bouncing it back to Stage 0. Trying to use SetStage DLC1VQ01 10 does nothing either. As I mentioned above, when I get to the cave entrance and use sqv, it shows I'm at Stage 12 instead of 10. Using SetStage at that point does nothing, and if I try to use ResetQuest and then SetStage, I'm left with Awakening completed (stage 200 IIRC) and the next quest not starting. AND Serana won't talk to me. Tonight, I tried playing through by just toggling off clipping and walking through the rock barrier. Started from a save before Fort Dawnguard too and still got the rocks. ANYWAY... that seemed to work OK till I got to that first room in DimhollowCaverns (where coc DLC1DimhollowCrypt02 also drops you). No Vigilant being tortured by vampires, only dead Skeles around the Serana puzzle. Free her and she still won't talk. Something just seems VERY odd here. ResetQuest, SetStage and even Kill (on Serana) are all not working on top of these bugs
Shadowhawk827 Posted June 7, 2015 Author Posted June 7, 2015 OK, so either I figured this out or it's one hell of a freak coincidence... The Console Commands not working and a couple of other minor glitches gave me the clue. I disabled the Extended UI mod and some bugs cleared up, new ones like all my health, magicka, stamina and skills resetting to base levels appeared. I completely removed the mod and started a new game (yet again - *headdesk* ), and Dawnguard has worked flawlessly through the first three missions last night. Dunno if it's a coincidence, a conflict with another mod or if Extended UI is fubar. I do know my game finally works though.
Shadowhawk827 Posted June 9, 2015 Author Posted June 9, 2015 So I continued to play after beating the last bug, and I found one other mod that causes problems with Dawnguard also; Journal for the Absent Minded Dovahkin & / or it's Unofficial Skyrim Patch compatibility patch. I got frozen out at the part where you join Harkon and you're supposed to learn how to control the Vampire Lord abilities. He'd stop right before telling me to transform into a vampire lord and then the quest was broken. No console commands would work to advance it. Deja Vu... Took some time, but disabling that mod in MO did it. I think I'm dropping that mod at this point. I suspect it may have been responsible for my earlier problems on the Awakening quest. It's supposed to track quests in the journal, not derail and lock them down. At this point, I'm tempted to go back and see if the Awakening quest being broken was caused more by this than Extended UI or (more likely) a combination of the two being in my load list. Checking the comments section on the Nexus the Journal mod also breaks the Dragonborn DLC at points. I'd avoid it. Too bad, it was a nice idea.
