Guest Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 Hello. Im having a huge problem, and I really dont know how to fix without reinstalling the game What basically happens is just that when I play the game and walking around, fast travelling or actually basically just loading into my save, the game is really likely to just crash. Just at a random time. It can happen after 3 hours or 5 seconds.. Really different. Yes I have a lot of mods on my safe, and it is probably that shit which is the trouble, but I really want to keep all my mods, cause it makes the game a lot more fun. Now I have a couple of questions: Anyone knows what exactly causes the CTD's? Anyone having some sort of little fixing program, which would make it a lot more easy to fix? Anyone knows if it is one of my mods which does it? doomcat9 Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 Use Enboost! http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/38649/? your problem is that your mods are overwhelming the games maximum memory allocation
Guest Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/50305/? Short description: When skyrim gets to 246mb memory wise it crashes this changes that and makes it 512mb before crashing or you could use the latest skse build and put this into your skse folder http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/51038/?
Swissenergy Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 If that is your actual load order then I see problems already. First of all, the official DLC (Dawnguard, Dragonborn, Hearthfire) need to right under Update.esm. Also Alternate Start - Live Another Life(LAL) is a mod that can easily be messed up by other mods which load after it, so always place LAL at the bottom of your load order unless you're also using some patchers like Dual Sheath Redux. If you haven't done so already please download LOOT it's a fantastic tool that will sort your load order for you to try to avoid mod conflicts. I used to have a lot of random CTD until I let LOOT sort my load order, now it's pretty rare that I get a random CTD so please do download LOOT. If you're using SKSE to launch your game, which I assume you are, then you do need to make sure to give Skyrim more memory space to help avoid memory overload crashes.Check out this S.T.E.P project page and scroll down to the "Hacks" section which will show you how to give Skyrim more memory to use.

Thanks for telling me man. But I really can't make it work... I can't find the SKSE.ini file, so if you have the time, could you then please help me? http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/50305/? Thanks! Haven't really tried it yet, because i've been sick, but I belive that it is going to work ^^
Swissenergy Posted May 15, 2015 Posted May 15, 2015 Sure, the SKSE.ini file you have to create manually create inside your main data folder for Skyrim. Navigate to where you have installed Steam on your PC, then go through the folders Steam/SteamApps/common/Skyrim/Data/skse Open the skse folder, right click and select "new text document" and name it "skse.ini" Open up the new text document and type the following: [Display] iTintTextureResolution=(what ever value you wish, mine is set at 2048 but it can range from 256 to 4096, so mine looks like this: iTintTextureResolution=2048 ) [General] ClearInvalidRegistrations=1 [Memory] DefaultHeapInitialAllocMB=768 ScrapHeapSizeMB=256 The [Memory] section is what is important here, this will greatly increase how much memory Skyrim has. The S.T.E.P page also shows other options you can put in the "skse.ini" file but the [General] and [Memory] sections are what is important here. Hope this helps, if something's not clear please let me know!

Because I guess that the "rules" are: The more memory, the fewer crashes. So what would be my absolute maximum and what would be my recommended maximum? If you do not know what the values are, then it is ok You have done more than enough to help me
Swissenergy Posted May 17, 2015 Posted May 17, 2015 As far as the maximum amount of memory, you can increase it to whatever you wish. However, it is NOT recommended that you increase the memory more than the two values from my previous post. Before I explain why let me briefly go over something important(if you already know this, then skip to the third paragraph): When launching Skyrim, the game allocates 2 empty blocks of memory for itself that will fill up with everything you do ingame. The memory size of both blocks are 256MB. While both blocks will fill up, block 1 will be filling up with more than block 2. (Think of block 1 as the main, primary block) If block 1 reaches its max of 256MB and can't hold anymore, then another block of 256MB is supposed to be allocated to hold everything that can't fit into block 1. The problem is Skyrim is awful about assigning another block of memory to use if block 1 fills up, and when the game doesn't have the space in a block to put data, it crashes. What you're doing in this skse.ini file is changing the size of block 1 from 256MB to 512MB, thus getting rid of the need for another block to be assigned if block 1 fills up. Two reasons why it's not recommended to change these memory values: 1. You've now doubled your starting memory allocation for the game and rarely will you use more than 512MB. I never have used more than 512MB, I've reached up to over 400MB but the number of times I've reached that much memory in block 1, I could count on one hand. 2. Once the memory has been allocated, it can't be used for anything else and so having a lot more memory allocated is actually wasting much of that memory that could be used by other processes. To summarize, yes you can increase the memory values but it's really not recommend you do so and it most likely won't result in a more stable Skyrim if you do. In the end, the choice is yours so do what you with, but I would just be careful is all. To ensure that you have correctly allocated 512MB for block 1, install Memory Blocks Log which is made by Sheson, who discovered the memory allocation fix, and what the mod does is create a simple log (.txt) file that shows the memory usage for block 1 and block 2, as well as how much memory each block has been given. To show you what it looks like, and the memory usage, I've attached my log file from my last play session which was nearly 3 hours long. Hope this helps! MemoryBlocksLog.log
Gameplayer Posted May 17, 2015 Posted May 17, 2015 Memory Blocks are memory that is pulled against the 3.1 Gig limit and used particularly for Cell Changes, and actors...It does help with a certain infamous tweak I wont name due to that. The point is lets say you allocate 1 Gig to mem block one and 256 MB to block 2. That means before your game had 2.5 Gigs to handle other processes before with Vanilla Settings. Now your game has about 2 Gig. So lets say your using that setting and the memory block log says your sitting at about 300 MB used in block 1. That means you have 700ish MB going to waste, it is just sitting there waiting for you to actually need to place 100+ actors into windhelm docks just because meanwhile the rest of your game is suffering cause that 700 MB is not dynamic its fixed purpose is only memory block one. In other words Your not actually giving yourself more of anything your just forcing the Game Engine to re-allocate memory usage from other tasks to handling, cell changes and actors. This need to do this however becomes only apparent in Vanilla Docks areas. OR when you have a mod or mods that place many more actors into the game. Just look at the Memory Block Log and you'll see. Give it just enough to suit your needs nothing more than just a little padding. TL2R Your robbing Peter to pay Paul.
Anatriax Posted May 17, 2015 Posted May 17, 2015 Ok. I'm gonna go over everyone's head here. http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/50214/?Do it. Live it. Love it. This guide will change your Skryim experience for the better. DO NOT DEVIATE from his directions. Not one bit. Do not pass Go. Do not collect $200. Go directly to jail.
