shazor
Hey guys, how do i exactly increase the load distance for my grass to a maximum? With my current settings the grass loads just loads to a maximum of maybe 100 metres and well this kinda sucks if you look in the distance. Here is a picture with my current settings: My ugridtoload are already at 7 and uexterioircellbuffer is set to 64 and in the skyrim prefs ini the maximum grass fade setting are already set to 20000 and the minimum fade distance is set to 0. Groovtama
in Skyrim.ini ;uGrid Grass setting ;formular: uGridsToLoad/2 - 0.5 (uGrids 7/2 = 3.5 – 0.5 = 3.) iGrassCellRadius=2 in SkyrimPref.ini fGrassStartFadeDistance=3500.0000 fGrassMaxStartFadeDistance=7000.0000 fGrassMinStartFadeDistance=0.0000 that are the values I know of they are both in the engine if they are used no clue. iGrassCellRadius is if not set 2 even if you set ugrid to 15 Link to comment
Shubal
I played for a long time with the problem of sudden grass appearance in the near distance and discovered that all my sliders in the base game display for distance and fading were set in the middle. I moved them all to the right fully and my world was instantly changed. I searched and used all the ini tweaks, Ugrids to 7,etc. and never thought to look at the basic game settings. A real noob error but one that some may make. Link to comment
Anatriax
There's a portion of my guide under General Discussions that covers LOD stuffs. If I recall it's under Phase Four. I know, I need to restructure my guide. After it's complete, I'll copy and paste everything, restructure it properly, and perhaps see if one of the moderators can delete/lock the original thread. Well, excuse me if I'm piping up and such but. When your adjusting your grass try not to have unreal expectations about performance. It certainly seems plausible to increase the grass load distance, though I don't think Ugrids to load is in any way ideal, and especially since the Mods that are available now when I look at a Ugrids 5 with modded LOD and modded Grass then look at a Ugrids 7 well. Honestly I think the new mods make using a value higher than Ugrid 5 kinda silly. <IMOH You take both an FPS hit and a hit to your allotted memory ( Sheson Mem? the memory he discovered matters most for cell loads and npc's )... This part is important to understand, at vanilla game of Ugrid 5 your going to have 256 MB for mem block 1, which is not enough in about 5 area's of the game however since players don't spend much time in those places in Vanilla its not usually going to crash for them. Example Windhelm and Riften Docks, and even the run to Riverwood ( Riverwood is more likely to crash with mods ). < not opinion So you could get better distance with Mods, Skyrim High Difinition Lod, Im using these right now and they are really impressive, you wont need higher than Ugrid 5 for structures. I think this mod also animates long distance rivers and waterfalls Skyrim WaterFalls and Mills < with that no need for high ugrid for water. I haven't had a look at these much yet, but these two mods are specific too grass Grass on Steroids and Verdant Grass. Use one or the other. The idea of these grass mods is that they found a way to increase the density of grass without as big an FPS hit as with Vanilla grass. I have a feeling though that it may be a placebo due to an INI modification that is also made along with it. In your case I'd try a Ugrid 5, smack those mods on there and try out the GOS....See if that is satisfying for performance and looks. Stress test it with some dragon fights too. Link to comment
Anatriax
One step in my guide covers TESVLODGen. Even with uGridsToLoad=5, I can see things insanely far away. Link to comment
