Anatriax
Ok. I've offered a lot of advice to people about stability problems, because normally I run a 99% stable game. However, new gaming rig means new Windows install, means new Skyrim install, and a whole new journy of modding. YAY ME! I have a big issue. I have a bit of a ritual that I go through whenever I install Skyrim. Here are my normal steps.1) Install Steam (duh) 2) Create Steam directory on my games SSD 3) Give all user profiles on my PC "Full Control" under security permissions in the folder properties. 4) Install Skyrim, 3 DLC packs, and the Unofficial patches. 5) Iinstall and run the most recent LOOT Beta (downloaded fresh every time I have to install) 6) Install SKSE, and all plugins that I use 7) Install Mod Organizer, and begin the process! Currently, I'm stuck on step 5. Newest LOOT beta has been downloaded and installed to a folder where it has "Full Control", and I've gone into properties, and made sure that it always runs as Administrator. I have attempted to run LOOT one time outside of Mod Organizer so the system knows exactly where it is, however... It freezes. I have to open Task Manager in order to close LOOT. If I stop the process, run CCleaner, reboot, come back into Windows, open Steam, and try to run LOOT again (with Task Manager open) I can watch it go from "Responding" to "Not Responding". I'm fairly sure I've done everything properly, and I've even uninstalled and reinstalled LOOT (both stable and beta) several times now, and I'm at a total loss. This is the first time LOOT has ever behaved this way for me. Anyone have suggestions? I'm dying to play my favorite game! :'( UPDATE: The problem has been limited down to my masterlist not updating properly. Firewall is open for LOOT. >.< Link to comment
Mister X
If you really use Mod Organizer, use MO 1.3, there already is the latest LOOT beta built-in and it can be updated easily. So you don't have to plug in the loot.exe into MO but you simply can use the "Sort" button above the .esp list. Link to comment

So if the standard LOOT beta won't update the masterlist, chances are that the integrated LOOT won't either. Also, I have the same problem with BOSS. Yes, I know it's no longer being updated, but it did help me narrow down where my issue was. So to clarify again: My issue is in LOOT not updating the masterlist. Link to comment
nautica187
To me it definately sounds like a permissions thing. Loot is being blocked from writing to the masterlist even though its being run as admin. Check what programs you have for anivirus/malware. try turning them off and running loot again just to find out which is blocking it. Also open your beowser and check your default internet settings. make sure you have installed and updated your .net framework, java, vcredist (c++) and all the other preliminaries for a new system. I've built and worked on alot of systems and keep a folder of all the preliminaries i install to get a system ready for everything. Also check the properties of the masterlist itself make sure it isn't set to "read only" for some odd reason. I had messed with that file before because loot would always screw u my load order so i resorted it and set the list to read only and it had similar issues. Good luck man. Link to comment
Anatriax
Yeah, I do fresh installs of Windows at least 2 times a week on customers computers. I own and operate a local PC repair business. These are all things that are on my "magic jump drive" that I have. A drive that I keep updated with basically all Windows Updates and essential software. It's also not a permission issue. I've taken ownership of the folder, and also have given all users profiles on my PC full control over all folders that are associated with Skyrim. There is also no masterlist to begin with. It can't get a preliminary master list, since it can't connect to update. It crashes during that phase. If I disable "update masterlist before sort" it will work. Link to comment
Anatriax
WTF!? I just downloaded the newest beta earlier today... didn't work. JUST downloaded it again? Works fine. Hmm. Maybe a file got courrupted somehow. Link to comment

Glad it worked out =) I do computer repair as well. used to buy them broken, rebuild them and sell them referbished as well. as for the masterlist there is one, but it's not in the loot files, its in the mod orginizer files. (since you must launch loot through mod orginizer to recognize your installed mods if you use MO). I havn't used MO in about a year so i can't give you an exact location for future referance. nowadays i just manually install and use NMM when i dont feel like reading fomods in notepad lol. But i think it was C:/Games/Mod orginizer/....then something in there. Either way its definatly in the mod orginizer files. There should be a current list and a locked load order list based on loots masterlist order and your mods. So before installing loot, you need to run mod orginizer at least once to make it work togather well. Link to comment
