Guest Vendayn Posted April 28, 2015 Posted April 28, 2015 I have a separate PC profile of Windows 7 for testing things out. One thing I use it for is Skyrim. My main setup is of course heavily modded But my other profile just has Skyrim+SKSE (for the memory patch)+ENB (for looks and boost) Now this post focuses on the Skyrim with NO mods ever installed except the two I listed. This OS has never seen any other mod except SKSE and ENB. All it is, is HD textures that bethesda made, DLCs I bought and Skyrim. Also DLCs cleaned with TES5edit Except...if ENB is on...with all effects turned off except bloom (no matter what ENB I'm using)...FPS drops to 20-30. If I turn off HD textures I get 30-35 but the game looks too ugly and still drops to 20 when near towns/cities. I'd rather smash my PC and be forced to buy a new one and be without a PC, then take it off. Of course, my heavily modded game only gets 30 average with severe drops to 15-20 when near cities and towns The problem is, Skyrim crashes all the time on my unmodded Skyrim. It drops to 15 FPS and crash. Even with ENB off, I only get very little FPS whenever too many actors are around and if I get close to any city or town...it will randomly crash. If I look at the ground as I'm running to the city/town it does not crash. I tried putting up a gofundme for a PC, but it hasn't worked out too well (though I got a couple donations which is great) But as it is, my PC can't play Skyrim and if I wanted Skyrim to look ugly, I'd just buy a console cause what is the point in playing a game on PC that looks exactly like the console version? I can't afford a console anyway or I'd buy a new GPU with that money instead lol. Now I get no crashes (on both my modded version, and my seperate OS unmodded version)...if all I do is look at the ground and nothing else. In fact, as a test on my heavily modded version...I ran around at super speed with high time scale for literally7 hours with not a single CTD (even around intensive areas like Riften and Windhelm and Solitude). Except, when I looked up and did it...FPS tanked and crashed lol. The same thing happened with my unmodded version. So as it is, I get a crash if I want to actually play...within 15-90 minutes. FPS tanks, then crash. Get near a city, crash. Its not mod issues, because my unmodded Skyrim does it too and its pretty random when it crashes. Is there anyway I can run ENB+HD textures without crashing? I can't afford to buy a new GPU or anything, and I'm not removing hd textures or enb as then game looks so ugly. I've tried so many ini settings, turning off everything in ENB except bloom...but it isn't doing any good. And lowering resolution I tried but makes game look super ugly. HiAlgo also does not work at all for me and makes it worse actually. I did do texture optimizer, but that didn't help much either. And my modded skyrim uses parallax textures and they are already optimized and I use the 1k version. System:Windows 7 64bit 8 gig DDR3 ram i5 660 3.3 Ghz CPU GTX 660 2gb factory overclocked No SSD drive Am I out of luck unless I upgrade? Is there anything I can do to get a stable Skyrim (or more stable anyway) so I can play? Cause Skyrim is my favorite game and even unmodded with just HD textures (even with ENB off) it still crashes and FPS gets so low with HD textures...is there anything I can do at all? Without spending money I don't have?
Guest Vendayn Posted April 28, 2015 Posted April 28, 2015 I guess I narrowed it down. It isn't mods (which is good, cause that is the hardest part...except at least fixing mods is free )But my video ram spikes way up in my unmodded skyrim (with ENB off and just HD textures) in intensive areas and that is when it crashes. It crashes a lot any time I load out of whiterun, riften and windhelm...crashes at riverwood too. Other areas are okay. My video ram spikes faster in my modded skyrim because it uses parallax textures plus I added a bunch of stuff...otherwise actually CPU usage is surprisingly really good and definitely not a reason. In fact, my CPU handles things really really well. I did avoid a lot of script mods (my motto was, use only 4 at most script heavy mods and I only ended up using 2 or 3), so that paid off really well. I guess there is no way I can fix this because I refuse to lower my graphics, and its costing my video ram to go past its limit. I'll just save a lot lol...since crashes are random...they just happen a lot (edit: It does crash a lot less (not at all actually) if ENB and HD textures isn't active. But then I lose parallax textures on my modded game and game goes back to being mostly vanilla-like. Maybe I can activate it for screenshots or something...but to be honest, vanilla skyrim really hurts my eyes (literally it makes my eyes super sore and makes my vision very blurry and I need an ice pack cause I get a migraine). I have this problem with a lot of games, as my eyes are VERY sensitive. But...guess if I want less crashes, I can leave ENB off. But heh. I think I'd rather deal with very annoying crashes then migraine inducing visuals )
yatol Posted April 28, 2015 Posted April 28, 2015 I guess there is no way I can fix this because I refuse to lower my graphics, and its costing my video ram to go past its limit. i play with a gtx 570 1280 mo... but the only 4k textures i have are - bodies - dragons - some terrains and galaxy - some trees - mine door, and a hood and scepter, forgot those and the graphic quality, well... i have post some screens here and there after bleakfall, the first dragon, some bandits and the compagnion quest with farkas (or vilkas, never know who is who), it was in whiterun i had my ram ctd, while selling/getting quest you hdd is a problem too, if the textures can't get in the ram in time, the game will freeze until it's done compressed bsa reduce that, but that waste some cpu power when it's decompressed in the ram Papyrus.0.log
Guest Vendayn Posted April 28, 2015 Posted April 28, 2015 Well my modded game uses 1x parralax. I think I have some 2k textures on my modded game, but I never got 3k or 4k textures. But according to the program I was using to detect CPU+GPU usage, my GPU went up to 2gb and then everything I guess went into ram (I think that is what it does?). But my unmodded game does it too (even with ENB off, but I leave hd textures on). Forgot what my CPU was actually now, but it only went to 43% (that was with my modded game, it was lower in my unmodded game) I think.. that was peak...so really low really definitely not using much and that was also with firefox running in the background (I like to go back and forth between games and internet browsing and chatting on steam/facebook or forums). Sadly, I can't buy an SSD drive (which would make things go faster yeah) because first I need a better GPU as mine can't play games...but I can't even afford an SSD drive and definitely can't afford a better GPU I did this same test in DayZ and while I don't see crashes, FPS drops to 5 on medium preset settings, and drops to 23 on lowest preset settings and video ram goes way past 2gb of usage. Is there magical ini settings for Skyrim, that might at least, lower chance of crashes happening and increase FPS so I'm not stuck with 20-30 FPS even with an unmodded game? Like I said, I already have ENB Boost, I have SKSE memory patch...those helped a lot, but still crashing a lot unmodded and modded because video ram is reaching its limit

Without spending money I don't have? You're running a similar setup to my previous build. The only major difference is I was running an AMD FX-8120 (3.1ghz overclocked 3.7ghz). That GTX 660 acually plays most games quite well. You'd be surprised what it can do with the proper Windows tweaks. I suggest this guide to everyone that has problems with stability. http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/50214/ Do EVERYTHING this guy tells you to do. Do not skip a single step. Not one. On my old build I was running the full Realvision ENB suite (Using Purevision ENB and Pure Weathers, instead of Realvision and Climates of Tamriel), MANY high texture mods, and a script heavy Sexlab, Skyrim Redone, yada yada and so on setup... a total of 230ish plugins... and I was 99% stable. I got VERY little stuttering, normally only when changing cells (uGridsToLoad=7).
Guest Vendayn Posted April 28, 2015 Posted April 28, 2015 Thank you! I never saw that guide and looks really informative. I'll be following that guide, and spending tonight to see how well it works
Anatriax Posted April 28, 2015 Posted April 28, 2015 Thank you! I never saw that guide and looks really informative. I'll be following that guide, and spending tonight to see how well it works No problem. Also visit Realvision ENB's page, and download the pre-configured .ini files for uGridsToLoad=5 prior to making the .ini edits that are suggested by the Speed and Stability guide.
nautica187 Posted April 28, 2015 Posted April 28, 2015 Also enboost is a life saver. i use mostly 2k textures but i play on a laptop. my specs 2012 Lenovo Z575 system model 12992kuCPU---> APU A8-3520M Quad Core 1.6ghzGPU----> Radeon HD 6620G 512VRAM (directx 11)RAM----> 8GB ddr3 @1333mhzOS --->64bit win 7 ultimateHD-------> WD @5400 I don't use an enb but i do use the enb series file just for enboost. doubled my frames at least and helped make my game stable. Also of course clean what needs to be cleaned with tes5edit and make your merged patch, a bashed patch with wyrne bash is also one of my steps. I use 2 mods for better stability, racemenu Percache killer and saftyload. even with my 200+ mods I keep a steady 30-40fps

I don't use an enb but its good to know i nay have overwritten newer files with outdated enboost files. i'll definately tweak around with that later to see if my game get even better frames with the right files. When i discovered it, i was about 4 hours into a complete rebuild. i totally pulled a TLDR on the whole enb series site. Found my file and got out. I'll go read it all later. Thanks for the tip.

The "enbhost.exe" and "enblocal.ini" is ENBoost. To turn off the ENB effects you simply go into enblocal.ini and change "UseSpeedHackWithoutGraphics=False" to "UseSpeedHackWithoutGraphics=true" and it will turn off the effects. Then you can change the other information to the numbers they need to be, specified for your system, and it will actually work better than the preconfigured ENBoost that you download from Nexus.

Occasional random crash for no apparent reason, except maybe my video card or something. Except...my unmodded 99% vanilla (only ENB with HD textures, and SKSE+memory patch) and even ENB off...still gets a lot of crashes lol. So my modded game gets vastly less crashes than my unmodded game. Probably cause I don't use hd textures bethesda made, and I use unofficial patches which might fix it. But I bet hd textures that come with the game cause a ton of CTDs for me. In my unmodded game, I have high end textures and 1k parallax for terrain/buildings...just 1-2k textures really...and its vastly more stable. Funny lol.
Guest Vendayn Posted May 3, 2015 Posted May 3, 2015 I also merged 49 esps into a few merged patches earlier today. Stability and performance went WAY up. Objects load vastly faster, meaning I don't stutter at all in the world anymore. Lowered CTDs even more (already lowered them a lot from the above guide) and opening menus doesn't lag like hell anymore. Opening level up menu dropped FPS to 4-5 for some reason and was super slow to load. Merged a bunch of esps (that actually had nothing to do with level up menu or menus at all) and now level up menu is actually normal. Even loading into the game goes faster and loading saves is a bit faster too.
