GregariousGibbon Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 Hi, I've been having trouble getting skyrim to actually function properly, and though i've eliminated some possibilities, i have no idea why it would start with these issues now. There are so many threads about loading screen CTDs for skyrim on the internet, but this one is slightly more specific:I have a quite heavily modded game (208 plugins) and not had much trouble in the past, but recently i decided to add some mods and start a new game. These aren't mods added in after a save, this is a new game issue. What i usually do is start a new game, wait for the mods to update, and then save, and then load that save so that the rest of the mods update. However the game instant CTDs at the start of the loading screen. I recently installed the newest EnBoost and all the settings for the enblocal.ini and skyrimprefs.ini, taken from the STEP guide. I switched back to an old version and had the same issue. The merged patch, the bashed patch and patchus maximus (and FNIS) all ran fine without errors. The CTD occurs when i load a save, or when i change area, so basically any loading screen. This also happens in vanilla skyrim. When i installed the newest EnBoost i was careful to remove only the enboost files in my skyrim folder. My data folder is clean (i use MO) and i have the latest skse installed. Is there anything that anyone can think of that would make the base game stop running correctly even though i haven't touched it? Or anything to suggest other than reinstalling? Thanks.
mewwwkittytt Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 I encountered a similar problem after updating my ENB. I think there was a file or patch that I had not installed, and remember to run the ENB utility to set INI files, if you haven't. In fact, you use the tool to properly uninstall the previous ENB (at least with Realvision ENB).
GregariousGibbon Posted April 17, 2015 Author Posted April 17, 2015 Thanks for the reply, but i don't fully understand I installed the new enb binary and i haven't ever used any of the presets like realvision. I wasn't aware of any ENB utility, i just edited the enblocal.ini manually. Before i did that i justy got rid of anything related to enb from my skyrim folder. So... i just have enboost, and to do that i just copy and pasted enblocal.ini , enbhost.exe and the d3d9.dll files, before editing the .ini as prescribed by STEP.
GregariousGibbon Posted April 17, 2015 Author Posted April 17, 2015 Argh! So annoying when it turns out to be the first thing you discounted. It was an ENB issue. Some of the settings were wrong for the ini, causing it to crash, and my older version i used as a "safe version" of enb must've also had its settings wrong. I even went as far as system restore before i realised. TLDR:If the game crashes on a save loading screen before its even started loading the meat of the save, check your ENB ini file is correct according to STEP.
azmodan22 Posted April 19, 2015 Posted April 19, 2015 Remember that you must also disable antializing and anisotroping filtering from the vanila skyrim launcher if you use enb.
