Smooth Running Game Just Stopped Loading

Very strange, I've had unstable games in the past because of adding/removing mods mid-game, using beta mods or mods that don't play nice together.  In my current game I had about 170 mods running and it was smooth, responsive with almost zero CTD's.  I did have one major glitch early on, I couldn't get near Falkreath or Riverwood without a crash and a warning from Windows.  I was around level 8 or 9.  That went away after about a week of game time.  Other than that snafu there have been very little CTD's or difficulty loading.

I did do one change before the no load CTD.  I had gone back to Bodyslide to add an armor and then hit Build for my current body.  I have monkeyed around with Bodyslide before during the game so I don't know why that would cause an issue.

Right now my character is level 24 (I'm using a slow leveling mod so it takes twice as long to get a new level) and the game simply won't load.  It's a shame too as a lot of cool armor and weapons are appearing like Ebony and Glass.

I don't think the game is salvageable.  I've tried reloading all my saves several times, I have six in reserve plus the three auto saves and none of them work.  The game crashes as it's trying to load, maybe after five to ten seconds.

Funny, I had thought about making a post a few days ago about how stable my current game is playing.

Don't worry, there is still hope. Now I hope you got the PDTWrapper (Papyrus Util Save Cleaner) around and clean your save up. Afterwards start a new game and wait for one or two minutes and load one of your saves.

Try to find your solution here:

or you can

Before you do following steps, replace your save into new folder, somewhere on the desktop.
Then delete "Skyrim.ini" and "SkyrimPrefs.ini" files and let the game generate new files on the next startup. Those files are located in My documents/My games/Skyrim. After deleting those files, start normal game and open the Options so the game can refresg itself.  After you deleting the files and refresh Skyrim.ini and Skyrimprefs.ini, simply start a new game using SKSE until autosaves in Helgen. Then exit the game and return your saves into Save folder

Thanks for the suggestions everyone.  I really only posted to share my story, wasn't even thinking the game was salvageable.

rzrequilel, never heard of PDTWrapper before but I will look into it.

pavelius, I don't believe I did that but I can always go and review.

germanicus, thanks for the troubleshooting link, some of that was over my head but I learned a few things which is good.  Also appreciate the suggestion of deleting the ini files.  I may give that a try.

Reading through the troubleshooting I found I have three mods that a contributor listed as problematic.  Two of them I really like.

iHud is one of my favorite mods and it appears Gopher has updated it since to correct the problems.

OBIS.  I really like this mod, it changes the game in a fun and fundamental way.  Don't know if there is a good alternative.  I just went over to the Nexus and found this, http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/64654/?, it's called, Extra Bandits and it seems similar in spirit as OBIS just not as deep.

Immersive Patrols.  This one surprised me as I thought it was a benign mod.  If I recall correctly the author states that it has no scripts.  I could enjoy my game without this mod I suppose but I would miss it.

Again, thanks for the help everyone.  If I don't recover my game at least I leanred something in the process.

I may have something for you since I had similar issues in the past few days again. I have a feeling you're simply running out of memory and thus getting those CTD's. As I said earlier check out the PDTWrapper and clean your savegame. Don't worry it'll not touch the original files and just make a new one, named EDIT-TIME-AND-DATE.ess.

Then have a look at the S.T.E.P. Memory Patch page and the ENB Skyrim Memory Patch. Another resource is here: http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/1340369-skyrim-memory-patch-fixing-ils-ugrids-ctd-freezes-for-real/

Now if that is too much to read for you, which is understandable then have a look at this video from Gopher. I highly recommend you to do so since he explains the most probable issue you may have. He explains in detail and shows the difference before and after.

TL;DR of the demonstration in the video: He could only spawn 36 to 38 Guards before his game simply crashed. After he altered the Memory Allocation from SKSE he had no game limits (he spawned 300+ Guards before his FPS were absolutely horrible — but he did not crash).

I followed everything in the links I've put in this post and guess what? I did not crash at all and my load order is as heavy as yours (I use a lot of additional NPCs, heavy scripts, etc.)

I hope this may help you out.

rzrequilel, I watched the video from Gopher, I actually saw it many months ago.

I am running an ENB already so does that mean I am using ENBoost?  Do I have to add that separately?  I couldn't tell from the documentation.

I was already running the latest SKSE so the memory management was already part of my game.  However, I didn't have the SKSE.ini in my SKSE Plug-in folder.  I added it and it didn't seem to help, I couldn't load the old game.

I did run the Memory Log mod and I wasn't even close to max memory.  I was right around 180 before the loading screen dumps my game.

I think I may give up on my current game.  It's okay, again I learned quite a bit though I didn't solve my problem.  None the less, thanks to you and everyone.
