Follower bug

I have a strange bug. A follower is sent away and i get the message that the Follower left your service and he indeed leaves.

 

Yet, I can't get any other follower to join me, all of them say that "it looks like somebody is following you already". I can get only the same guy following me.

 

I tried to remove him from the CurrentFollower faction (5C84E), didn't work, he is still following. Any ideas?

 

I'm not using any follower related mod.

Update: I uninstalled the mod in question, cleared the savegame with the tool and the bug is still present. Every possible follower says that I already have a follower.

 

 

Any idea how can I get rid of this ghost follower? Sacrificing a black rooster did not work.

Hello monsta88.

 

I faced the same issue a couple times in FO3, FNV and Skyrim.

 

If you are sure, that you have no Followers in your service, open the in-game console and type in:

 

show playerfollowercount

 

It most likely will show a number higher than 0 (most likely 1 or 2)

 

If this is the case, then you can use the following console command to enforce 0:

 

set playerfollowercount to 0

 

If you do this, then you should be able to hire a follower again.

 

This is the only solution I know right now and which I actively used so far.

 

If anyone else knows another (and better) solution to this problem, please post it.

Thanks, Maxunit, it worked like charm. You saved my lvl 74 character playthrough. While I mostly use female followers, this time I tried a male one and he got stuck, but not anymore!

 

From the style of your answer, I'd guess you work as a CSR somewhere. However the fact that your answer was exatcty what I needed to solve the problem says otherwise. I don't think I ever got a useful answer from any CSR on the 1st try, lol.

But no, I do not work in CSR (yet)

 

I ran a Community Forum for a couple years and at some point you get into this style of writing, depending on the situation.

 

Anyway, I'm glad that I was able to help you save your lvl 74 character.

 

I'm currently trying to save my lvl 15 character. Seems like I overdid modding.

 

PS:

 

I prefer Female followers as well.
