Sixpaths22 Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 Has anyone run across this and may happen to have a fix for it? They constantly generate at random points on the screen. Wherever I go, inside or outside or whichever way I turn. Thoughts?
gregathit Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 Bloodsail, check to make sure your video card drivers are up to date. Also artifacts like that can be caused from your video card overheating. What are your temps like?

The AMD website?
gregathit Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 It is best to go to the card manufacturer to get your drivers. If you don't know who that is then go to either ATI or Nvidia to get them. You might need to check your actual GPU heat and not just your box temp. Upgrade your drivers first and if that doesn't help then we can mess with that.

If it is only one game this occurs in your card just might not be supported in that game. Depending on how old your card is this can happen. Sometimes you can have a fairly recent card but for whatever reason it can't handle things. If it is just this game then try lowering your graphic settings and maybe also reinstalling your directX. Also you may need to completely uninstall your video card drivers, preform a computer restart and then install the latest video drivers again. Sometimes things from old driver sets get stuck in the folders. If this is happening with multiple games/applications then you likely have a dying video card. I've tried installing Directx but it says I am up to date as well, I couldn't find how to uninstall it. I'll try uninstalling my card drivers now. Edit: Well, uninstalling my card drivers didn't solve the problem. Perhaps It's a conflicting mod? I don't know..
gregathit Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 If it was running fine until the recent update then the problem is likely the current driver set. Try rolling back to the previous driver set (you may have to look at the archive section at the ATI site). And for the love of all that is holy, turn off any auto update on drivers!!!! You should only update your drivers if you have issues! Like they say, "Don't fix it if ain't broke."
Sixpaths22 Posted March 9, 2012 Author Posted March 9, 2012 It seems that it was definitely my driver update. I restored my computer to before it and the game has no pixel problems. Why would an update break something? Seems counter productive.
thesapien Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 Often updates to drivers for graphics are performance tweaks to increase framerates. Sometimes these are more like hacks and cheats with a cost, sometimes hitting quality and often creating more things that can go wrong on individual systems. Not always; things can go either way. People who know much more than I do on the topic though are known for keeping with older drivers that they know are stable. It's also possible it wasn't the update but a bad install of the update. You could try reinstalling the update, though I would recommend staying with what is currently working.
gregathit Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 Well, old dogs like me tend to stick with the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" mentality on drivers and updates as thesapien stated - although I certainly don't make any claim to knowing more than him or frankly knowing up from down The problem with updates from ATI or Nvidia is the are general updates. You are better off going to the individual site of your cards manufacturer. For example: I have an Nvidia card made by EVGA. I never go to Nvidia.com to get my drivers like most do. The reason is EVGA tests those drivers and if they don't approve of them then they don't make them available. I have seen EVGA not approve some of the supposed "latest" drivers at Nvidia.com several times! As I stated above the main sites (ATI and Nvidia) are putting out blanket drivers that may or may not work worth a damn for your particular card. Go there at your own risk.
Eiries Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 Disable Anti Aliasing; it's a known issue with some ATI cards and new drivers. Your best bet for AA right now is through a post-processing solution like FXAA until there's a fix.
