Crashing upon loading most saves

Recommended Posts

Whenever I try to load any save I have, it seems to have a 90% chance to crash upon loading.  Also, stability in general is wonky sometimes, with some infinite loading screens upon entering buildings and sometimes flat out freezing in cities. I've tried to prune down my mods, but it still seems to do this with frequency.

I already cleaned all of the mods with TESVEdit

Skse 1.7.2

FNIS 5.2

Mod Organizer 1.2.18

I also tried running it with ATTK, but I'm not sure how to use that program well, especially with MO

Do not clean mods with TES5Edit, unless especially recommended by the mod author for WIP mod, or someone who's judgement you can actually trust for already finished mod. Most mod authors are better aware of problems coming from dirty edits in mods and know how to avoid them. Because of this, most currently "dirty" edits in mods are not there by mistake, but actually needed for mod to work. Removing them will render the mod entirely useless and it can also be a reason for persistent crashing.

Was the load order set by LOOT? (Recommended.) If so, check the relevant warnings from the Details view. There is a good change that they may tell you what is going on much faster than Papyrus.

You don't have any Unofficial Patches. While they rarely fix crashing, USKP acts now as a master file for several new mods and fixes. Several LL mods seems to benefit from these fixes as well, so I recommend that you download the main file + DLC files.

Include this SKSE tweak to aid with infinite loading screen problems. The tweak should be introduced in SKSE ReadMe and it is opened a bit in here.

(Sorry to point so often to Steam, but it is the common platform for all Skyrim players. It also has a group of experienced players helping others with their troubles.)

Yeah, I used the integrated LOOT feature in MO to sort the mods.  I only cleaned the mods in TES5Edit that LOOT said should be cleaned (the DLC's, and a couple of the steam workshop mods).

This is why I recommend that peoples would pay more attention to what is going on in Steam.  :)  MO's inbuilt system is out of date and guys recommend running LOOT trough MO as one of applications, so it is always up to date. This has solved several problems.

There is currently exception to that matter, because Mod Organizer has been updated and support the new Beta version of LOOT, so using that will give you most up to date data - for now. (MO oes not yet give alert for being updated. 1.3.2 version is live in Nexus, but not registered as update. It is in open testing, before official update gets called.)

LOOT does not know the difference between needed and harmful dirty edit notices. It will warn you even the required edits. They should all be ignored, disincluding notices about master files and situations noted in my previous post.

Besides the above mentioned SKSE ini tweak for memory. I noticed you didn't have any of the Unoffical patches for Skyrim and the DLCs, these might help your stability.

Another ini tweak that seemed to help my stability was HWThreads, setting how many cpu cores you have then telling Skyrim what each core should be doing.  Can't remember where these were but I think it was in the S.T.E.P. guide.

Have you gone through many mod changes with these saves? They might need a Savegame cleaner or Savegame Script cleaner.

Also changing your Papyrus setting in your ini file may help (with both RND and Sexlab there might be too much strain for your current settings and it goes kaput)

There is also a console workaround that helped me in the past in the same situation.

In the main menu open console and type

COC QASMOKE

, then load your saved game from there.

If that helps then you can avoid the issue in the future by only saving in the interiors.
