Decreasing skills

I noticed that my mercantile skill went up unexpectedly over 200. How can I decrease that skill? I already tried advskill mercantile -184, but when I try to decrease skills by cheating my game crashes.

I used the ring but my mercantile skill still is over 200 :C

the correct console code to adjust your merc skill:

player.modpcs mercantile #

 

NOTE: If you want to lower this you will have to do it in a bit of a backwards fashion. If you are at 200 then you need to replace the # with 56. This would make your stat 256. However the game will only allow 255 so it resets and returns your new stat level at 1 (256 which you just entered minus 255 which is the max). Now that you are at one just add what ever number you want to get to where you need to be. If you want to be at skill level 100 then just retype the console code and use 99 in place of #. You can't enter a negative number with this command or CTD

 

Note: advskill just levels up your skills. Only up not down and only 1 level at a time (it ignored your number).
