Hey everybody,

Today I've seen some Hired Thugs fighting city guards (I have a mod installed that makes the guards attack hired thugs). It was a mace guy,a 2 handed guy and a dagger guy.The 2 handed guy seemed to pretty much 1 hit the town guards. The 2 handed guy was using a iron battleaxe (18dmg).

I have SkyRe installed and just wanna know if the hired thugs are that op for some of you other SkyRe users too.Yeah people deal way more damage with SkyRe.Best example is me.Lvl 36 stealth character, glass armor,470 armor rating and I get owned really hard in melee combat. But really,a 2handed iron axe 1 hits a guard...?

Quality of a weapon makes little difference - every single bandit in game walks with steel weapons at best even those most difficult ones.

And there is a lot of difference when just bandit hits you with steel weapon and when bandit marauder hits you with steel weapon.

It's their level that makes that difference.

Basically my opinion is whoever made difficulty progression in skyrim should lose his job. Guy is obviously so clueless that it is beyond any hope...

They're even 1 hitting guards.I'm sure they won't without SkyRe as SkyRe massively boosts the damage of every weapon, especially two handed weapons and crossbows but even in the vanilla game those hired thugs are freakin' powerful.Draugr are no problem for me anymore...except for bulky ones, those have a good amount of HP,death overlords too.Normal Bandits are pretty weak too but then hired thugs with basically the same equipment are so strong?

Whoever made it so that people send hired thugs after you even if you weren't seen comitting the crime should lose his job.

It's not so much the level (though that does have an effect, especially when level scaling mods are added) as it is their class. Higher tier enemies have more perks and abilities, and that's where a large portion of the damage comes from. This leads to a lot of inconsistencies, where you can be fighting a bandit that can barely scratch you, then a bandit leader comes along and nearly one-shots you.

And I agree, the difficulty progression should definitely been handled differently. I get that the devs wanted to give the feeling of the player getting stronger compared to the world as they level up, but that just screws it up completely for those of us who want a reasonably consistent challenge at all levels.

I don't run SkyRe, but if you want to figure out what's going on you can try to get Skytweak. Look up the weapon skill scaling value in Skytweak, I think Skytweak reports current values, I think default is min 1 max 3

You can check armor skill scaling value also.

When the thug shows up, bring up console and check his one/two hand skill, check his weapon and weapon damage, then check for relevant perks, usually just the first one that boost 20% to 100% damage

Again also check who he is hitting, his armor skill, base armor value, and relevant perk.

If I recall correctly the damage math is base weapon X skill multi X perk%, at vanilla max NPCs can deal base 6X the base damage of weapon.

If none of it still makes any sense, go into CK and check for damage mult perk. Bonus perks for something like 2.5x damage exist so you could end up with cases like enemies dealing 15x base weapon damage. Which is something like 120 damage for a one hand steel sword and 255 for steel greatsword.

The difficulty issue is that bandits usually don't go past level 25 and are typically using low quality weapons. One off enemies usually have better weapons and higher level, but you don't fight them in packs.
