Vaneticorum Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 I'm so completely new to the idea of creating mods that I don't even know where to start. I've taken look at some stuff with NifSkope and installed Blender. I would like to start making mods. Could you wonderful people be so kind and post links or give advice/suggestions on how to even dive into making my own mod, like creating a race? Even if your advice is to give up because I'm way over my head as a 100% noob to image editing.
gregathit Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 If anyone tells you to give up just ignore them. Also ignore the folks that say it is easy. Both are wrong There is a whole series on using the creation kit: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Steam_Workshop#Steam_Workshop As for nifskope: you can look through the material at the site you download it from as well as the forums that are there: http://niftools.sourceforge.net/wiki/NifSkope As well as looking at this (note most of the info is old but will help you grab some basic concepts that are still applicable): http://cs.elderscrolls.com/index.php/Working_With_Nifs_101_:_An_Introduction Blender (and some info on nifskope as well) can be found in the tutorial section here: http://www.loverslab.com/Forum-Tutorials-Guides--33 There are links in some of the threads that will point you to sites that have TONS of info, some even with a pictorial walk through. Modding can be extremely addicting and many who get the bug for it spend more time modding than playing. Have fun
Vaneticorum Posted March 4, 2012 Author Posted March 4, 2012 Thanks for the info. Some great tutorials to help me get started.
Kara Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 Start small! Don't just jump feet first into 3d modeling and expect to know what you're doing. I started with simple texture edits, using alpha channels in photoshop to remove pieces of armour. Once I had that down I went to retextures, then to nifskope mesh editing, now I'm starting on 3d stuff. Build on existing pieces at first instead of trying to create brand new equipment from the ground up. Try and convert an oblivion armour into Skyrim, stuff like that. If you need any specific help send me a PM on here or on the Nexus (KaraTES), I'd be glad to help
