ChocoboDreams Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 I pretty much can't play the game anymore, which is a shame. I really don't want to get rid of all my mods and I feel my computer -should- be up to par in handling them. I've looked up guides on how to fix it and am in the process of doing so (a lot of technical mumbojumbo I really don't want to do), but I have to ask, is my computer just not good enough? I've got an R9 280 3GB graphics card and 8 GB of RAM installed. I'm not above installing another 8 GB when opportunity presents itself, in fact I may actually have a couple RAM sticks from my last computer laying around...er, but anyway, are these issues beyond fixing for my computer? Oh, and yes, pressing M or manually going to the Map from the menu will crash my game immediately.
Alpia Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 just installing random ram sticks is stupid rams sticks only work well togheter if they have the same clock/cycle and latancy that for ram also you will never use the 8gb you have 3gb graphic card is good 2gb is in my opinion the minimum if you want to work with enb and 1k textures so far so good Well since skyrim is fucking old and not perfect it has issues which I count here and display fixes for it: -Skyrim is a 32bit application so it can by default only use 3.1gb ram this is the max of every 32bit application -Fix for it use enb boost it takes over memory management and greatly improves performance and since its a 64bit application it helps skyrim a lot with ILS and CTD's -Skyrim if using blocks of memory by default the blocks skyrim allocates are 256mb big which is with mods often really often not enough if the block is filled you are done -Fix for it use SKSE memory patch aka shesons memory patch 1. Download and install SKSE 1.7.12. Go to Steam/steamapps/common/Skyrim/Data and see if you have a SKSE folder with an SKSE.ini file inside. If you do, add these values to SKSE.ini:[General]ClearInvalidRegistrations=1[Display]iTintTextureResolution=2048[Memory]defaultHeapInitialAllocMB=768scrapHeapSizeMB=256 If you don't have a SKSE.ini create one using the text editor and save it as SKSE.ini These two things fixes nearly all the ILS and CTD that are not directly releated to a mod

I've been racking myself reading all sorts of stuff tonight, even did a whole ENB thing already, didn't quite work. And yeah, I realized earlier that random RAM doesn't play nice with each other, shame, but if you're saying my computer should be enough to handle it that's comforting, at least I know I won't have to spend money so much as just play around with some files. I'll give your suggestion a go right now.

I've been using 1.7.2 pretty much since I started, or rather as soon as I came across a mod that required it, but that shouldn't be a problem, no? Maybe I just need to cut down on the amount of mods I'm using. I'm using pretty much the limit (about 250), though I still don't see how it explains the whole game crashing when I open my map thing.

I'm hoping this wasn't just a fluke and actually means something, preferably that it was -one- mod that caused this and not me having too many mods at once. ChocoboDreams Posted February 2, 2015 Author Posted February 2, 2015 Alright, so after extensive testing, it seems that the loading screen issue happens consistently when I have bishop.esp (romance mod) plugged in, which is strange, but at least it's an answer. Gonna keep plugging things in one by one and see if everything works without Bishop. That said, the map issue seems to be completely separate. I've found that using the map in an indoor location constantly makes me crash, while using it outside works perfectly fine. I'll continue to work on it on my own for now, I just figured I'd keep this updated until I've solved everything, in case anybody else might have a similar issue and comes across this in a Google search or something. Edit: RonzoFollower.esp also seems to give me a load loop without fail as well, I think that mod added an area to the game (Mt. Gagazet), so that could be why.
guk Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 When you reach a certain threshold in RAM and script usage, there's no way around loading a small indoor savegame first before loading your actual savegame. Otherwise there's like 50-90% CTD chance on outdoor or large indoor saves, the ILS can simply be the "light" version of that.
ChocoboDreams Posted February 2, 2015 Author Posted February 2, 2015 I get what you're saying, but currently the game is loading without fail, whereas whenever I had RonzoFollower or Bishop active it would crash in the exact same area. Currently they're the only two mods I have deactivated (outside of some others I wasn't using anyway), and my problem seems to have been fixed. Haven't checked yet to see if my map is working.

I also tried to track down some outdoor freezes and loading CTDs on my install, so i de- and reactivated whole categories to see what's causing it. All the 4K texture packs on their own were no problem, even after adding SFO 2.0 + Verdant Grass with 7 / 65 as grass settings. In the end i was left with only SMIM, WATER and Skyfalls&Skymills deactivated. Activating any of these 3 would start freezing the game in Whiterun and around Riverwood. So it's possible that it is not this one particular mod's fault, but it rather can be "the straw that broke the camel's back". BTW in my case, the solution (hopefully) for the freezes was to turn off VSync in the enblocal.ini and use the FPS limit instead. First-Load-CTDs can still happen but that's just the RAM/Script overload. There seem to be some problems with AMD cards and recent ENBs, some settings like "force windowed / fake fullscreen" are also murdering my performance.
Alpia Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 a newer SKSE version than written in the instructions is no problem as said using these both methods fixes nearly all ctd's ILS that are not releated to a specific mod. For your mod amount i use a i5 a gtx770 gb vram and 16gb ram my ram is barley used when it comes to vram it depends on what texture packs you use they put the struggle on the graphics card hd packs that put heavy load on your gpu and vram are gras mods because obviously gras if fucking everywhere as well as landscape textures because same as the gras they are used nearly everywhere also water if you just have a few armors with 4k thats no big deal. (btw I use over 255 mods with merging 355 active plugins as I said it all depends on what mods you are using there is no specific too much mods number) The limiting thing is the skyrim engine depending on what mods you use they may have a huge amount of scripts running the more scripts the bigger the load obviously you can have 500 armor mods that is no problem, but a few heavy scripted mods cann allready be a problem you can take a look at how much scripts you have running if you open a savegame with a savegamecleaner for example. Its good that you figured out some problematic mods thats the way everyone has to go google fixed all my problems when I started modding. What you are describing is a overload of your hardware nothing mod specific since these 3 mods don't use scripts and if texture packs are a problem depens on what textures they replace

And I couldn't help but grab them all. Not going to be able to install them all at once anyway, NMM keeps telling me that I don't have the space or something, but they do seem pretty intensive. Last thing I need is to fry my brand new graphics card!

Armors are not really intensive I mean if you install only 4k armors and every npc wears them it could get intense, but if you and your follower are the only ones wearing 4k armor you won't even notice any performance impact Anyway in short don't worry about armor's they are the smallest problem you will ever run over. In case of troublemakers I would give the first place to heavy scripted mods since you can't do anything against it armors don't even fall in my ranking I really recommand the other armors from him http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/users/3373573/?tb=mods&pUp=1he now also does the conversions for the newer armors himself You can also take a look into Minoumimi's conversion of aradia armors they are sweet
ChocoboDreams Posted February 2, 2015 Author Posted February 2, 2015 I found that if I install too many plugins at once NMM will pop up with a message along the lines of "a __ has been manually removed", and since I didn't remove anything I assumed it didn't like that I was adding more stuff, so I tried to mix and match. If you're saying I can put in all the plugins I want, though, it'll be nice to not have to juggle my mods around anymore!
Alpia Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 skyrim's engine is limited to 255 plugins NMM brings up this message once the last mod you install this can be "changed" with merging a few plugins to one single plugin this works well with armors since the don't have any scripts mods with scripts I would be very carefull with merging I allways merge all my armor in one plugin. If you want to know how to merge I recommand you search for a tutorial or use this: http://wiki.step-project.com/Guide:Merging_Pluginsif you find this to complicated just say it I can make a pictured guide, but the videos should be good enough If you decide to merge armors for example be aware that you will have to forge/add them to you again since the existing ones obviously dissapear when you change the esp. Also be aware you should not merge stuff that is required for other mods so you should not merge devious devices when you have mods that require it for example. As said I limit it to armors Take a look trough your mods if you don't really need something get rid of it deinstalling is better than merging Since I'm allways struggling with the limit I avoid things like single followers or single weapons since they all use one plugin slot regardless if there are 1 or 10 follower/weapons whatever in it.
